It's frowned upon in the community but it can happen
It's very rare for those sorts of players to be randomly attacked, and certainly not without exceptionally good cause. It would be unthinkable for such a player to lose all of his cities - although mechanically it is possible it's difficult to imagine a scenario where such activity would not arouse the entire server in their defence.
The real concern you might have with this route is that, unless you joined an alliance at least for the initial stages of the game you might be unfamiliar with some of the commonly accepted practices in the game. Not settling within 10 squares of another city for instance is one you'd almost certainly face, but depending on where you are on the map it wouldn't be an issue. Land claims in the Broken Lands could also be problematic.
So definitely possible, but ill-advised I think to do so. At least initially.
It's extremely addictive though, especially if you get into the nitty-gritty of it - and the daily grind of the game can be a bit much. Doubly so if you have a second account.
Thanks for your through advice. I think this game is not for me after all. In a different time of my life perhaps I would have tried the game, but nowadays it'd be counterproductive.
