I tried your suggested method, however it doesn't seem to be working for me...
A real shame, though :(
EDIT: Additionally tried to uninstall and reinstall the game, unfortunately did not solve my problem.
EDIT2: Alright, after looking through the pinned thread it seems to directly relate to the "auto walk" issue mentioned there. Pressing "up" on the NumPad seems to have fixed the issue alltogether.
Spamming the numkey buttons is an already known temp fix. This didn't work for me, so that's why I gave this post. Should've added that to what i've tried.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling any touch devices (like touchpads), as, in my experience, their drivers interfere with RPG maker. (I'm not sure what to do if you are trying to play on a touch-enabled laptop or, horror of horrors, Windows 8, 8.1, or 10.)
Ultimately, there are hundreds of different solutions that work for some people but not for others. The trick is in finding out why RPG maker is not working today for you. I wish you luck! If only RPG maker offered customer support on this issue (which has been a rampant problem with their software for at least 10 years).
