Text not showing on the start screen and game crashing

Hello.

I started binge playing this game yesterday perfectly fine up until after Tony's quest, but when I launched this game today I found that the save select screen's text doesn't show up. http://i.imgur.com/H93tSwk.png < Picture here.

When I load my save and try to interact with anything, I get an RGSS error (failed to create bitmap) and the game freezes. http://i.imgur.com/T5SIOA7.png < Picture here.

I tried validating the game files by right clicking on the game on Steam, and I also tried to see if installing the game's font solved the problem, but to no avail. I would really appreciate any advice as to what I could do to fix this. Thanks in advance.

Hi Josh! Ah, I'm sorry this is happening! Hopefully we can get this figured out!

By chance are you loading the game by running Engine.exe directly? If so, this will cause problems because you're bypassing the font. So if you'd like to run the game directly, you'll need to actually run Launcher.exe (or make sure to run directly from your Steam client, since that points to Launcher).

Please let me know if this solves the issue!

No, I've been using the Steam client to launch the game. Running Launcher.exe yields the same results. So it is somehow bypassing the font because of some other reason.

I'm using a different, older computer to play the game now (so it's not the save file or my account, either), but this error seems pretty weird, and figuring out what's wrong might help if someone else runs into it in the future. So if you have any other ideas about what it could be, please let me know and I'll try them out. The computer that's giving me the error is Windows 10, and the one running it ok is using Windows 8, if that helps any.

I have the same problem. Launching game from Steam client - looking at menu items with no fonts just like JoshRyuu posted. If I start a new game, there is no ingame fonts either. Would be grateful for any solution.

Hm, this is really strange :/ I'm sorry this is happening! I'm going to try and do some research on what this could be. In the interim, I have a temporary solution. Here is a link to the font used in the game:

If you install this, are you able to see the dialogue/menu items/etc.? *Please make sure to reboot your machine, and make sure no Launcher.exe or Engine.exe processes are running before installing the font. If you let me know, we can go from there ^_^

Just tried Your solution and it actually worked!

What I did:
1.) Copied font file into Windows' Fonts folder
2.) Restarted my PC
3.) Launched game from Steam client as usual
4.) PROFIT - Both menu and dialogue became visible!

I hope it would be possible to find more "unattended" solution in the future :)

Now I'm finally able to play, Thank You!
