Report a translation problem
There were hints, like their bedroom have two single beds; during the ending, the mother was with a boy, I understand it as the boy was the other son which was staying with grandma when the mother was taking care of the main character. The mother picked the other son up and they set sail paper boats to remember/honour the main character
Its a better ending for me to understand it like this. The change of posture as the mother walks on the road at the ending was for the other son, to make it seems like everything will be ok
When the dad called the hospital he told the mom "take care of them for me" implying more than one child.
I know this thread is rather stale :-) but at the end I did (half-)expect he would make a wish for his mother, e.g. for her not to remain alone... which might've even been fulfilled by him not really dying (as at that point it wasn't apparent she had another child, to me at least), though such a combination might've been a bit over-sweetened in my eyes, or how I'd say that.
