Is disguise killing the game ?
So, i just played a "rescue the informer" mission, without being able to scout, so no possibility to use disguise...and guess what, I had just sooo much fun and thrill !
I had to really use different abilities in synergy like heartbeat sensors, exertion, sure shot, and survivor in order to manage to stay in infiltration mode. What a good feeling when i reached evac point without triggering any alarm.

I still wonder... can you play all the game without using disguise ? In that case i think i would go for it !
Have someone tried it yet ?

If it not possible, i just really think that disguise should be time related like many people here suiggested...something like "disguise points" going down every time you go through the LoS of any guard (but not civilian). And maybe the actor perk woul gain use here by improving wayyy up the number of disguise points ?

cheers

OR maybe... disguise could be awareness related ?
Using disguise would deplete awareness each turn, and when down agent would need to rest a bit ? something like that ?

I agree with the stealth play being awesome without disguises. The last mission in the CIA campaign was an absolute riot trying to get through without being seen. It was easily the most fun I had with the game.

I don't see them making any changes like that though. Not after what the small actor change brought about.

I am just waiting on the mod tools. I love the game as is, but it will be one of my favs once I can tweak a few things.

You mean the thing that is 100% optional to use? It can only kill the game if you force yourself to use it when you don't like it.

Yup. Disguise. Breach with suppressors. Actor.

They all ruin the game. Nerf everything. That's the solution.

Anything that could possibly be considered fun or too easy - must.be.Nerf'ed.

What I miss the most, when going without disguise, is a clear way to notice civilians, just like it is done for enemies. Workaround is to always click on a weapon to show the civ-icons on every step you do in forbidden territory.

You're exactly right.

The regular guards are not dangerous but it seems I'm often missing the vision cone of some civ. and then it's off to combat.

Yes you can, it's just alot more difficult, and sometimes tedious as you will end up fighting alot more. Still, if you play it right you can stealth without it. I finished Russian side campaign and last mission I did 100% stealth, with only 1 breach usage. It was pretty amusing.

Played last two missions without disguise and sure it makes the stealth much more deep and fun. But it highlights the weakness in stealth design, not just the stealth strength. Frankly open a door and get discovered is such a boredom, ok it's just reload and position at right side, but sill.

So yeah without disguise it's quite more fun, but also it can be rather tedious sometimes. In last mission, I screwed up a little the plans, and it degenerated in length.

My answer is , there's always the preference not to. There is player's choice. It is there depending on your player style of play and difficulty. I actually enjoy the mechanic, but some of those disguises, ooph
To me the lack of costumization in the clothers, the limited facial and hair choices that you cannot even match the many profiles agents have, lack of voice overs, really make the disguise option off abit to me. I am sure the cosmetics of the game will improve over the next year.

ok, i'm going for it ! Finishing my playthrough not using disguise anymore !

From what i've seen for now, i think it would just require one or two tweaks in the mechanics for it not to be too frustrating

1) a better use of tactical spotter which can often be blocked for all floors but one
2) maybe an ability to overwatch under infiltration mode ? Somthing like a Close Quarters overwatch for skilled agents wo could react to a guard passing the door they were hiding behind and neutralize him before an alarm is triggered?

You can already do that with silenced weapons. I often do that to guard a dead body. Stand on it and overwatch. Playing on hard, so cant eat the bodys.

Or you can tick the option to add civilians to the enemy bar.

Oh, thank you missed that!

I wouldn't say disguises are 'killing' the game per se, but they definitely undermine a large portion of it by making any tactical planning associated with stealth trivial. That said I do find the overall gameplay experience much better without disguises.

Been doing a custom hard-ironman campaign with no disguises or armor allowed in my second playthrough and I have to admit it makes the game much more interesting. Duing a stealth run this way actually requires planning and loot becomes much more about risk versus reward as every detour can potentially jeopardize the mission. Combat also becomes much more interesting as you have to start utilizing the different gadgets and skills at your disposal, instead of just ignoring them as you typical would.

If you find the overall gameplay lacking then I would suggest that you give it a try as it really spruces things up in the long run.

Disguise = Skip boring missions when you can't interrupt.
I don't understand why you use it anyway. Best thing about tactical recon is clearing fog not disguise. No one is forcing you to use disguise.
