But I hear ya, Also only six voices to chose from not helping. The game to me was underdeveloped in the modeling and character perks.
Look not looking to argue its off the topic.
No its not that expensive. I just worked for one company that did 50 voices for a game in one day. They used their staff to have fun with it.
You can do it yourself practically now. Its not that expensive a process sorry. It depends if you go union and use actual voice actors, then yes it can get pricey, but most actually use inhouse personel. Mostly licensed games do that and its usually a combination of both. for example if you do a Star Wars game, your going to use Mark Hamill, or Harrison Ford, and maybe some staff to do minor roles. Star Trek is another example, your doing DS9, your getting those actors and your own staff to have fun. Even prolific impersonators like an Andre' Sogluzo or Kim Novac who are well known in gaming.
The game si probably going to have a mod section where you can add your own variety of voices. Its the copyright issues that now are facing X-com Firaxis as hollywoods attorneys, WB and Disn took notice of the massive use of their voices without permission recently. I am no epxert on that outcome, but I am sure that does play a factor in future endeavors in gaming. Cannot be using copyright protected materila without permission. Especially is a company profits from the sale of a product. X-com 2 has been using voice packs from a variety of shows.
We will see how that all turns out.
That all being said, PD has alot it can improve on, voices included.
Let me correct something-This was the statement from the attorneys going after Firaxis
"Nobody has a right to a specific voice, otherwise many people would have to go mute for their entire lives. Also impersonators would be banned legally. There is not copyright or trademark right to a voice.
Having said that phrases associated with characters, real or fictional, may be legally protected. So long as you do not mix the two, you can say what you want with any voice you want. Do not make any reference to any character, and do not associate the voice with anyone."
So we will see where that all goes. That may not be resolved for a long time.
I think you had 20 voices with a variety of espressions. Then no beef. Game just needs more of them is all and the option to have none for a character too.
I thought the voices were well recorded and sounded "beleivable." The problem is there are not nearly enough different personalities. Most of them were actively annoying. And even within the tolerable personalities there are not enough different phrases. It quickly gets very repetitive.
I was so happy when I found that I could change the personality under the customize agent feature. At least then I wasn't being called a mo-fo every 2 minutes. Maybe the devs, who I assume are not native English speakers, do not realize that calling somebody that in real life is likely to start a fist-fight.
Every time I click on this guy, he keeps saying, "What you do want mutherf****ker?"
It was funny the first couple times, but becomes annoyingly repetitive.
Yep. I don't mind the voices or the quality of the actors, it just gets old quickly.
