I try to give my agents a smoke grenade, it can be pretty damn good as ennemies can't shoot through it, saved my ass a few times!
Just don't do combat ambush, use the flee and expose then buy new ID
Who says they are supposed to be? That is the very nature of an Ambush,
That's why they recommend agents traveling together, though I don't know if multiple agents get ambushed together.
They don't. I got ambushed two or three times in the beginning and then started to always send teams of two agents. Not a single ambush since then (except for the scripted ones).
An ambush is an event that happens when you are needlessly careless with your agents. You are the architect of your own disasterous ambush. Also, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ambush. It's not designed to be fair.
You deserved to die.
You spies have each an identity protected level shown by a bar filling, even when this bar is at zero, there's a chance to get ambushed with only one agent scouting.
At reverse with two agents scouting, avoid ambush is guaranteed.
The problem is it's totally non intuitive.
Once you know the rule, it offer a good management choice, scout with one spy with a risk to have to pay for a new identity in case there's an ambush (you choose identity revealed option), or scout with 2 scouts that is more resources from your roster.
I hate these missions, they are so unfair. More enemies start on top of you than you can shoot, including agents. I barely made it out alive on two of these missions.
Why even have a shootout as an option if its this difficult? Specially early game. People saying bring smoke. I didn't even know you could get smoke.
But the idea should work in many ambushes, 2 smoke grenades, 2 runs for free, and then run and evac, or a bit more to manage.
Would be tedious to equip any single agent scouting with 2 smoke grenades, but I'll try with one and if it works well, with a few more dedicated to solo scouting.
Myself I just stopped look at the option of ambush and just pay for new ID, but once you start get smoke grenades, it worth a try.
Dear Kodiak: Git gud...
