French DAO
I like the variety of weapons available in the game. It's interesting to me to match their "non-copyright" names with the gun that they represent in real life.

Some are pretty easy .45 is clearly the Colt 1911. Some have parts of their names - TT for the TT-30 Tokarev, B-76 for the Benelli B-76. Anyway... anyone know the inspiration for the early game French DAO? I was thinking was a revolver "Double Action Only", but it looks like a semi-auto. And I have to admit I can't think of any French pistols that would fit the bill.

I'm really curious about the responses here. Once you're ready for us to declassify this info, please let us know. :)

To me, it resembles one of those plinky little walther ppk's like sean connery/james bond used to use all of the time.

I'm pretty sure it's a version of "Le Français" made by Manufrance which fires .25 ACP

Nice. I hadn't heard of this before, I would agree.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Fran%C3%A7ais_(pistol) it was also made in .32 ACP!
this is quite an odd little pistol

Honestly, the French DAO could be basically any interchangeable saturday night special since they all were more or less the same. It's why a bunch of countries have laws against pistols in .25 ACP and .32 ACP

do you mean pistols that are made in both caliber or does that not matter?

Either/or, yes.

Ultimately, pistols chambered in such a tiny little round are very concealable, and useful for killing. Gun control types can easily argue that they're unsuitable for hunting or sport. And that a bigger, more substantial round/gun would be much more useful for self-defense.

So, they argue, that these little guns are good for one thing only (killing), so why on Earth are they legal?

They are complete crap at the killing part too, because usually they are built from the cheapest steel imaginable if not outright made out of zinc. Their accuracy is questionable and in any real combat, they'd be the worst possible modern firearm to have. Their only real practical purpose is to be a pistol only for emergencies, not for any serious usage.

Also, a suggestion for the devs: Introduce a few integrally suppressed guns like the the PB pistol, MP5SD and L34 to the table. They would be handy for some missions.

odd, in The Netherlands every caliber is legal. We're not allowed to carry either concealed or open in public. The only place we're allowed to brandish our weapons freely is at the range, so that might have something to do with it.

Cheap, tiny, throw down pistols chambered in .22, .25, and .32 were once upon a time the Mafia's preferred weapon of choice for killings.

Easy to conceal, easy to dispose of, and relatively quiet, they weren't using them in gunbattles. They were walking up behind some unsuspecting target, and emptying them into the back of their victim's head at arm's length range or less.

Doesn't matter how inaccurate they are, or how weak these rounds are. 6 of them deposited into the head, neck, or chest, unable to exit, and rattling around and fragmenting against the internals will kill just fine.

There's a suppressor you can research eventually that fits on SMGs and longarms (including the LMGs !).

I know there are suppressors in the game, i'm talking guns that do not require such attachments nor proficiency to be quiet.

I'd quite like to see the Welrod, a pistol that dates back to the 30s, of british make, which fired a rifle caliber round, but had a suppresor built in. It was a favorite of british Special Forces for many years, despite some accuracy issues at medium-long ranges, and it was a bit big for a "stealthy" pistol

I thought that's the point of all guns - to kill?
