Monitor Scaling to Resolution ratio ... puzzle icons and gui elements needlessly huge
I think the scaling to resolution ratio is way out of whack .... I'm stuck on 1366 x 768, and the GUI elements are massive ... the instruction panel takes up about a third of the screen, it could be half that size at least, and it should be possible to hide it quickly and completely when wanted (i turned on quickkeys/hotkeys and '2' doesn't do anything, I assumed that would hide the panel anyway). likewise the elements / hexagons are needlessly huge ... each one is bigger than my thumb. my puzzle area is super cramped and i'm still only on chapter one ... judging by some of the gifs i've seen online, it's going to suck when i get to larger puzzles.

in an ideal world, we could zoom these things in and out during the game. but if that's not possible, I think it is imperative to provide some options to make it smaller scale.

here's what the gaming area looks like for me, for the 'stabilized water' tutorial puzzle:

this is an edit to my original query, which I have left untouched below (I didn't know I could scroll down the component panel on the left). however the general problem with scaling still exists so I've simply edited the original post and thread title.

my monitor resolution is 1366 x 768 .... I saw no indication of any resolution limitations when I bought the game, but I immediately noticed how large the elements, reagents etc area and how little of the puzzle area I could actually see. I figured this was going to mean trouble, and sure enough now that I've got to the Stabilized Water puzzle (end of the tutorial), I see that the selection column to the left where i pick pistons, tracks etc is obscured by the instruction plane.

There seems to be nothing in the Options section to address resolution issues like this, and using the hotkey 2 (or it's GUI equivalent at the top of the instruction plane) does not allow me to see the whole puzzle area and the column to the left, so that I may choose from all available pistons etc.

what's the deal ? am I missing something obvious ? if this is a limitation of the game in its current state, I can't play until it is fixed.

ultimately there should be some means of choosing a smaller size for icons etc ... they are massive on a 1366 x 768 screen, and as I'm experiencing, render the game unplayable for lack of being able to select from all the available tools.

someone please tell me I've overlooked something somewhere, and this can be addressed...

if not, I will make a support ticket with zachtronics.

thank you

by the way, I'm brand new to the game ... so apologies in advance if I have mixed up some terminology here and caused confusion. I hope my query is easy to understand as it is ...
It's still playable at 1366x768, but it is more annoying without a zoom function.
have you actually tried playing it at 1366x768 ? .... how on earth is it supposed to be playable when you can't access the frigging bottom third of the panel on the left, from where you choose your various components to solve the puzzle ?

uhh. you can scroll that area.
thanks guys. was hoping for some kind of user error.

is it possible to edit thread-titles, and messages here ?

because now I'd simply like to request the possibility to make the GUI elements smaller ... in other words zooming out, like a previous poster suggested ... beause imo, the elements are obnoxiously and unnecessarily large on 1366x768 ... I prefer to have a larger overview of the puzzle ... I really don't need a fire element to be the size of my thumb to recognise it on the screen.

anyway, thanks again for pointing out my user error re: mouse scroll

I am at 1440x900 and I have to challenge myself to keep my solution within the viewable area! :D

Yeah, I'm stuck at 1366x768 too. I agree this needs to be addressed.

I'm at 2560x1080 and it *Still* hides that bottom third part.
I actually had no idea, there was more "stuff" and just thought the game was broke.

sounds like a scaling issue in general then ....
i noticed on reddit some users were asking him to scale UP the gui (!!!!!) ... they must be using really super high-res monitors to make that kind of request.

at any rate, we need to be able to adjust scaling .... this is a 2d puzzle game, there's no sane reason I shouldn't be able to play this comfortably on a 1366x768 monitor (max my laptop allows)

I'm at 3440x1440 and everything's super tiny. If I sit back in my chair, it becomes pretty hard to see. Opposite to you guys, I'd like a way to zoom in. Maybe some scaling feature or a way for the game to respond to CTRL + and - would be a good way to handle this issue.

tough titty. the game wasn't even out of early access when the dev went on a podcast and said he aint gonna do a got damn thing about it.

funny thing is they were boasting about the fact they used their own engine, rather than unity, to build the game .... so much for their engine if they can't even get a 2D puzzle game to display uniformly across various screen resolutions.

Windows is getting confused. Go into windows > display settings> scaling> set to 100 then launch............ ofcoaerse I assume you did the fallout 4 ini work, launched the game and saved at Vault 111, then launched mo with the windows settings propper. 😀

Ini should have your desired output and have full-screen and boarders 0 😱 for this to work. Happy hunting I hear a settlement could use your help.

This is the discussion forum for the puzzle game "Opus Magnum". Completely unrelated to the fallout 4 mod "Magnum Opus". We regularly get people making the same mistake on the discord, but this is the first time I've seen it on the steam forums.
