But it would be a close call between 2 and 3. I loved the sci-fi nature of the second episode, and the tale of retribution it told, but 3 gave me nearly complete immersion into the game world. I also thought that each episode had its own genre. 1=horror 2=sci-fi 3=political thriller, and 4 a somewhat unsatisfying mix of all three.

I thought The House Abandon was a great way to introduce the game. I knew there was some meta aspect to the game, but I didn't think it'd be like that. It was super rad, and I loved the transition from peaceful to spooky. Also, I'm a sucker for horror. Despite 4 being last on the list though, I actually did really like it. There were a lot of, "Oh. Ohhhhhh! That's what *that* meant!" moments. They did a good job making the tie-ins with past episodes, but I just enjoyed the others more.
Episode 4 I felt the same as most of you. While you can theorize that more is going on with it, I think it was fairly straight forward. I was really hoping ffor something a bit more MIND=BLOWN at the end.
I like how you put that, as i found myself desperately trying to keep my sci-fi imaginings alive while the game crept towards more worldly explanations. At one point i made a last ditch effort at ignorance, thinking; Maybe the therapist is a bodysnatcher style infiltrator?...please.....
Now that i write that, I am starting to appreciate the game on a new meta-level; I was literally emulating the character as i mentaly pleaded for the untold stories tv show to be real instead of the grim reality that was actually unfolding. My own inner monologue matching that of the character as i thought; "No!, this is not some sobering tale of family grimness, for you see, I am a government agent cought up in a mystery of extreme importance!"
Was this the intention of the developer? Appreciation level rising....
3 had more complex and interesting stuff to do but 1 had some creepy moments.
2 was good but didn't particularly care for the orbs.
4 did tie it together but felt both drawn out and low on content compared to the rest. The revelation was interesting.
1 (great tone and writing, dual protagonist was genius, dragged on at times )
3 (found the puzzles too fidly, the outdoor section was a nice change of pace, but dull)
4 (ending felt contrived and obvious. although the pulling together of the strings was well done)
2. Operating the various devices was pretty cool and brought me back to Physics classes in college. Also the story was pretty tense and even though it was sometimes hard to figure out what was happening, it kept me guessing all the way to the end.
3. It had the most annoying game play mechanics. The microfilm was hard to read and I actually had to google a couple of the answers since I literally could not read the correct input. Also, just inputting numbers and commands was pretty tedious. Nevertheless, the plot was pretty good and straightforward, even though this time we had no clue what was happening at the end.
1. It started off pretty cool, but halfway through it got really confusing. It was only on my second play-through that I realized what was happening. At first I thought the game was trying to use cliched horror tactics like loud noises and unexpected blackouts to scare me. After I figured out what was happening it was pretty cool, but I think for the first play-through it was really confusing, so that's why I leave it in last place.
