Hello Charlotte

Hello Charlotte

Confused?
This game looks great but...is the demo actually the prologue and Hello Charlotte is Ep.1? How would you describe the difficulty? Part of the Summer Sale? Thanks!

PS: Other games like this?

This game IS great in my humble opinion! Wonderful story and art.
The demo is actually episode one (in its entirety) and "Hello Charlotte" (the one you purchase here on Steam) is technically episode two.
Be sure to play the demo all the way through before purchasing the second episode, otherwise you won't be able to access the demo/first episode anymore. If you prefer, you can also download it on itch.io
(highly recommended you play it in order, more enjoyable/understandable that way.)

There's no combat at all, other than Socialization (you'll see what I mean if you play it). You can die via a few Bad Ends here and there, but you can save anytime! The difficulty lies in some of the puzzles, but it's not impossible to figure out, and quite fun at that.

Not sure if it's part of the Summer Sale or not.

P.S. There really aren't many games like this one, which I mean in the best way possible. It's like a surreal RPGMaker game. I suppose it could be compared to Close Your Eyes, Take the Dream IX, Amihailu in Dreamland, things like that. Hope you'll give it a try~!

Sold! Thanks!

That's... pretty confusing and unnecessary; it wouldn't be hard to include both episodes (and Delirium?), by having the player select the episode they want when they launch the game. (This is how Lisa the joyful works. It's a Steam feature so I don't think much work is required at all.)

Either that or give each episode their own download in the library, because having it only accessible by downloading the demo before buying the actual game is really hacky and obtuse.

Yeah I do agree with you that it would be a lot easier that way...maybe the dev is waiting to do so until the third episode releases? (especially since Delirium isn't considered a sequel or anything)

This is rather lame. Why not include ep1 with the main game? Even if it was in a separate folder, and had its own executable file, that would still be better then outright requiring to play the demo before buying the game.

Edit: And now I had to be the jerk who paid $0 for the demo...

I forgot all about this...

I dunno about it being lame...slightly confusing, I suppose....I mean, I see what you're saying, but I think it's because there's not many linear connections between Ep1 & 2. Each episode (including 3) is sort of it's own thing, with it's own story and style. You're not technically "required" to play Ep1 first, if you really don't want to bother with it. I'm certain you can still get enjoyment out of Ep2 as a standalone game, on its own merits.

Or perhaps the dev simply thought that Ep1 served better as a "demo" rather than offering it for sale or free-to-play via Steam. Ep 2 has a bit more depth to it in terms of plot, character development and gameplay length, so I'm guessing the dev wanted to showcase it in that sense.

I'm still hoping everything will be released as a full collection, eventually. There's more story to tell, though. As of now, episodes 1 & 3 can be accessed rather easily via links to download in the description on the store page.

Oh! Well it's not too late...in fact, I noticed the game's 40% off until the 21st. I also have an extra copy I would be happy to gift you if we were friends

This is an old thread so I dont expect much, but... I am confused on the downloads/Eps. I have the demo downloaded I think (which from my understanding is ep1), but on the ep2 page it says it's already in my library? I'm just kinda lost on what I have and dont have. I get that they are are itch io as well, but its nice to just have whats available on steam in my SL. Thank in advance for anyone that comes back to a 7 y/o thread

Not entirely certain, as it's been a while, but I think at this point the "Hello Charlotte Demo" (aka Episode 1) is no longer available on Steam and the page/download will just redirect you to the page for Episode 2, which is now free. And Episode 1, as far as I'm aware, is still available for free on etherane's itch.io
