Linux support
I remember playing the demo to Gorogoa over 4 years ago. That demo was only for Windows, but since the game was developed in Java and included a jar, I could run the game successfully on Linux. I think you gave me that advice on Twitter when I asked about it at the time. It was a beautiful experience that was made especially striking to me given what was happening to me at the time.

Are there any plans for releasing the full game on Linux? Is Gorogoa still running on Java such that I could buy this on Steam and run a .jar file myself?

There's also a Switch version now, that I've tried, but it felt awkward to control with a gamepad. I'm still hoping for a Linux version, but if that doesn't happen, I'll probably just get the Android version instead.

Have you given it a shot in proton? If it doesn't work, you can refund it
flesk 26 AGO 2018 a las 2:03 a. m.
Nah, Proton is not for me. Especially not for new games that I don't own yet.

@chraffx @flesk FYI

By mistake I baught it. I usually only support native games. So I just tested it on Proton on Ubuntu 18.04 / RX 480 / mesa

It doesn't start and I'm currently asking a refund.

Here was the error:

Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed

EDIT: s/GTX 480/RX 480 >_<

Why do the three users of Linux in the world desperately want it to become a thing?

Because it's a good game and it's a good platform. The end. :butterfly:

Hmm, it should work according to https://spcr.netlify.com/app/557600

Dear sephchan,
today is not the best day for trolling since the new 1809 update has been released, so do yourself a favor and make a backup of your data

Thank me later :-)

It's because your graphic card (or at least drivers) do not support Vulkan (and Proton uses Vulkan by default to translate DX11 calls). You can work around this by clicking RMB on Goroga in library, then Properties -> Set Launch Options and paste: "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%". Game works well for me with this setting.

It's such a shame, that developer did not release Linux version. It's Unity title, so porting it to Linux should be straightforward at this point.

@Dreamer_ I'm pretty sure my GPU and drivers supports Vulkan as I usually activate the option on native games when possible (Rise of the tomb raider, Talos principle, ...).

I don't have the game anymore to test with the environment variable PROTON_USE_WINED3D11

Thanks for the tip anyway.

I'll wait and see if a native build for linux is coming.
Dreamer_ 11 OCT 2018 a las 3:32 p. m.
@Cyrhinka oh, that's interesting - Fermi cards do not support Vulkan officially according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API), but there are some reports of Vulkan working here and there...

Did you try any other DX11 titles in Proton?

Let's hope the developer will make Linux release, it would be better than waiting for the game to be whitelisted for Proton. Game works fine with tiny sound crackling issues, so native version would likely work fine as well.

@jeffl hey there - I already own your game - can you release Linux build e.g. on beta branch? Some of us here can help with testing. From what I can tell your game uses Unity and has no serious issues working through wine/Proton (I tested it on 2 systems, specs here: https://spcr.netlify.com/app/557600), therefore most likely Linux build would work out of the box. It could result in some free advertisement on https://www.gamingonlinux.com/ ;)
Cyrhinka 12 OCT 2018 a las 11:05 a. m.
Oh sorry! Just realised my mistake, not GTX 480... Radeon RX 480

Not quite the same ;)

I'll edit my first comment to not be misleading.
