When you spend diamonds then are removed from your pool and placed back into your blessed diamonds total. So temporarily your profit bonus will take a hit. However, when you claim you will get the spent diamonds back as well as any new ones you've earned.
It's always best to spend as much as you can before you claim to make it easier. Also something to note, Champions do not require you to claim diamonds. The diamonds they require you to have is total from your pool and your blessed diamonds so you can switch to a new Champion without having to claim.
I almost always claim diamonds if I've spent any. Sometimes I'll plan for three diamond researches with my pool and wait until all three are done before claiming, but I know ahead of time that's what I'm doing. Generally when I spend them, I put them right back into the pool.
Artifacts are vital to the game. Get them all and upgrade them as soon as you can. It doesn't take long and once you're done then you don't have to worry about it anymore. And you'll get a Steam achievement. I use to always try to get as many and do as many upgrades as I could just before claiming diamonds and resetting.
your total diamond pool consist of:
1) diamonds (increase your gold income)
2) blessed diamonds (do nothing)
A)when you use diamonds for anything (artefacts/ research) they are shifted to blessed diamonds.
B)When you progress you will gain blessed diamonds.
To add blessed diamonds to your diamonds pool you need to do the soft reset (claim diamonds in glory menu)
your diamonds pool will not be reduced in amy way, just it can be temp lowered by shift part of diamonds to blessed ones

Interresting...I have 2186 hrs ( over 3 months) :( in the game and only 1/5 of the way to Tempestus.
Question while I am here: Why does my profits (G.P.S.) jump a good amount when I collect an upgrade barrel (100%) in Upgrades but when I buy in Store "EPIC UPGRADE" +2500% it only jumps my G.P.S. about 1/12 th of what the 100% gave me from Upgrades?
The barrel is a proper extra multiplayer as described.
The epic upgrade purchase is its own multiplier but additive within itself.
If you are buying 2500% upgrade then you have around 30k multi (at least, 27900 unlocks). So the increase percentage at that point would be 30000 + 2500 = 32500 = an increase of 8.3% or so
Progress will also vary depending on amount of red gem purchases and the speed you are capable of doing raids. There is also a choice to push progress or save to whatever breakpoints (ie the 5k / 2k recommendations)
With no purchases, my numbers for comparison:
OK thks....and no issue with the time to get Tempestus for me. This old brain totally missed the "Void Crysta Upgrade" in Store, once I activated it, it took me about 20 mins to get Tempestus. lots of catching up to do now. :)
As you play the game the diamonds will accumulate slower and slower. Things that speed them up are upgrades, researches, and new Champions. Make sure you have all your artifacts bought and leveled up. Check your researches and get all of those leveled up as well. Remember that buying building levels in 25s will give you a little profit boost for that building and when you have them all over a 100s level then you get an overall boost.
If you haven't already, the exotic merchant items need to be bought with blues or reds and then use reds to buy the multiplier up to 5k % After that save your blues and reds for later in the game (blue to possible convert loots, but mostly to make reds. Reds to buy void effects and then war outpost multiplier - you'll need a starting base of liike 7600 reds for the two combined). At some point you want to start saving loots for Midaeum. You'll need a LOT of loots of that, over 1600 purple ones I think. When you're raiding always start at the top and as you add more raiders fill in from the top until you finally have all five going. That's because of the 1600 purples. You need far less of the blue ones.
If you can access King Midas, then make sure specialization is correct and your favorite building (I forget when you get these things). And you can check out the wikia site under King Midas for the link to the skill calculator for point distribution. Ignore pillager and loot charge until much later in the game.
Other than those things, make sure you have your autocaster done properly (wikia's tips at the bottom will help you with that depending on which mode you are in) and always keep your Apollo Blessing (12 hour reconnect) going. The only other thing to do is wait while the diamonds accumulate.
