Does multiplayer require one copy of the game and one device per player?
I think that Mysterium supports online multiplayer, as well as pass-and-play. I'm wondering whether multiple people can play online from the same device.

Like a lot of other people, I'm stuck at home during the COVID-19 lockdowns. My partner (who lives with me) and I usually have game night with another couple (who live together). If the four of us wanted to play online, could we use two devices, and two copies of the game - one in each household? Or would we have to own four copies and run them on four separate devices?

Thanks for the help!

Mysterium supports online multiplayer and local pass&play but you cannot mix both together.

To play online every person needs their own Asmodee account and separated device. You can buy this game also on Google Play and Apple Store and play with people who have the Steam version, the game supports cross-platform play. However, the mobile version still has this annoying bug which forces you to relog after every game.

(You need only 2 players to play this game so there is also an option to start 2 ppl game and work in two teams - one couple controls the ghost, the other couple controls the mediums.)

wait, so if I own the game, my friends can play with me without buying the game?

If you want to play a local multiplayer on a shared screen then yes you need only one copy of the game. But if you want to play online then every player needs their own copy and Asmodee account.

ok but do you know how the "remote play together" function works ?

Mysterium doesn't support Remote Play Together.

It`s a shame for a board game when remote play together is not supported.

We've played with only one copy of the game, by streaming it over Discord. It's not ideal, but it at least works well enough to try the game out among a group before deciding to buy more copies.

Basically, it works like this: The ghost player runs the game and streams it over Discord or something of the like. Thus, the ghost both hosts and drives for a pass-and-play game. That is, the other players (psychics) tell the host what to click on when it's their turn. There's not a lot of clicking around, so it's not too much trouble for the host to drive like this. Then, when it is the ghost's turn to do stuff, stop or pause the stream, or change streaming windows (which doesn't always work well), or just remind all other players to look away until told to return (honor system). ---- To take it one step further, it should be possible to then use Steam's "Family Library Sharing" feature to share this game with a friend so that they can host/drive as the ghost... but we haven't bothered to go that far with it yet (we'll probably buy more copies if we want to play again... or just not play again since it really is worth only one copy).

Yes, it's terribly annoying (and a bit greedy) that Asmodee has not added Remote Play Together (RPT) to this game. As someone who has their own RPT game on Steam, I would totally add it to this game if it were under my control. The only caveat I see with RPT and this game is that there is no perfect solution for when it is time for the ghost player to do their secret stuff. RPT is all-or-nothing streaming tech. Thus, if playing pass-n-play over RPT, you would need to play the honor system of reminding psychics to look away while the ghost does its thing. While this is not ideal for RPT, yes, I would still add RPT to the game so that those who are okay with the honor system have the option to go with it. I mean, seriously, it only takes a few clicks to add RPT to a game on Steam (and maybe a tiny bit more for Mysterium if they want to add a notice to the ghost's turn screen reminding the other players to look away until told/notified to return).

And... while I'm here... what UI designer is not smart enough to resize the images in a card selector widget to fit all cards on the screen?!! I'm talking about the 5-7 cards along the bottom that can be selected for zooming if you want a closer look. Streaming or not, it's annoying to not be able to see them all at a glance.
