Similar to the other titles?

So I was really looking forward to another entry in the series. I recently went to Japan and I'm pretty sure I saw Danganronpa 3 there, but I don't think it was this.. Any idea if that will be coming out soon?

Anyways, is this game anything like the previous two titles? I was really put off when I saw it was a shooter, and it seems to focus around two characters (one of them being a character I really disliked). I enjoyed the puzzles, thinking, and the story development in the other two games.

The atmosphere is similar, but other than that it's mostly different. Lots of text for story progression, however. It's a shooter with visual novel like elements, and there is a moderate amount of puzzle solving involved as well.
And the character you dislike gets a ton of development that will probably change your mind on her.

no this game is hardly like the first two like you said its a shooter as opposed to the whole visual novel with the class trials and the investigations of the first 2 games.

That said it covers story stuff between 1 and 2.

The main focus is indeed on Toko Fukawa and Komaru Naegi (Makoto's little sister) who is one of the many captives. The captives are the people that were being used as one of the killing motives in the first game (the kidnapped loved ones).

While the focus is on them two there is a tiny bit of backstory on two people from the second game. Hajime as Izuru in the epilogue as well as Nagito who shows up very early..

If the idea its a shooter puts you off, I suppose you can simply read up a wiki on the events of this game. I mean it is text heavy like the visual novels but its less VN and more of a 3rd person shooter.

As far as I know, the release date is sometime this year (I think around the holiday season?) But I have to check up on that. It will release both on PC and Console at the same time I think.

Well, I took time to actually look it up. So yes, it will come out this year and yes it will come out for both PC and PS4/Vita on the same day. September 26

Thanks very much!! I figured it would be a much longer wait.
Hopefully Ultra Despair Girls wont be necessary to fully appreciate the story in part 3, else I'll definitely have to pick it up

Danganronpa 3 you are talking about is not Danganronpa 3. It's called New Danganronpa V3. It was released in Japan for some time and it will release in English for console and PC on September 26. Danganronpa 3 is an anime that ends the story of first two games and Ultra Despair Girls. New Danganronpa V3 takes place in a different universe.
