There are factors other than just gameplay that retain players in DBD.
DBD has dailies and only one progression currency. The blood web is way less grindy and more rewarding than what DG is doing. I've already got Ghost Face to P1 in DBD. I'm struggling to get my Stalker in DG to P1 and the last challenges are ridiculously grindy, stalling my progress and it has already taken me 50 hours to get that far with her.
DG puts me off even trying while DBD has progression and rewards that keep coming, it doesn't ask me to perform silly challenges to get a perk, all I have to do is the objective to get blood = progression in the blood web. It is so simple compared to the hoops DG want us to jump through for very little reward.
DBD also has the benefit of the licensed killlers, which bring in loads of gamers. I bought DBD for the Myers DLC, I didn't even know what DBD was at the time. Since then I've always bought the licensed killers.
Each map changes how you play as a Killer or Survivor alike. Billy loves the open maps, Stealth-Killers prefer indoor maps, on' and on. Survivors play different from one map to another, you rely more on pallet loops on wide open maps, more on windows at indoor maps.
Alot more variety in perks/addons/items/gameplay.
You can be a flashlight saving survivor, could take a key for a early escape, bring in diversion and distract the killer, be a sabo or medic focused survivor, could be Killer Myers and bring in tombstone or perma-teir3 addons, be a perma-tier 1` ... wait is that a fountain I see? Oh god it's Plague, does she have the vomit detection addon? ... did I just see someone go down instantly at range? Craaaaap it's Huntress with iridescent hatchets.
As a Killer you can focus on slugging, be anti-window loop, bring spirit fury and other anti-pallet perks, be a Hex killer, drag in Obsession perks, could be a Basement Billy... each match & each killer is always unique, you have to adapt to not just how a Killer is being played but to the Killer itself, what addons are in play, what perks, what map you get; did the Killer bring a Mori? Are they running NOED? No Hex: Ruin .. must be confident or new, gotta be careful. Did the survivors all bring flashlights, or did one of them have a Key? Maybe they're all running MoM, DS and Borrowed Time ... wait, that Dwight just stunned me from a locker, alright, he has Head On.
Knowing when to pull out of a chase because your being looped and need to catch that survivor off guard later, knowing where you may wanna patrol to try to force a 3-gen situation at the end, knowing typical hiding spots / juking tricks / mindgames .. DBD is complex with a ton of variety you have to consider when you really got time behind it going against experienced players.
Now if only I could say DG was even on the same playing field at all.
It happened because a few reasons I think.. probably because of
- DbD new content,
- insta-executions at the begin of the match (jUsT qUEue aGaNE),
- hunter's op/frustrating shock (he can hit you from BEHIND physical objects stopping briefly your movements and then killing you TOO easily.. ''jUsT RUn m8'' -> as if he couldn't jump from one side of the map to the other landing on your head LULW)
Ikr that a GOOD team of scavengers might easily troll the hunter, but most of times it is way more convenient waiting for the 6mins rather than risking your life and being instakilled.. Once 2 of your teammates are dead there's not that much to do..
If devs don't want to nerf the hunters they should at least reduce the time arrows' trails are visible (so that helping teammates chased by hunters would be way less risky), giving scavangers a 2nd chance from being insta-executed too early and add more physical obstacles (so that you won't get lasered by the hunter).
