It's a story about a young girl at school and how her actions affect people. Very cool storyline and a bit creepy but not meant to scare the pants off ya. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
Two hours in the puzzles are easy and the jumpscares are cheap and the horror element is weak. The sense of uncovering what the hell is going on is the only thing keeping me invested at the moment.
Three hours in still playing and still very mysterious so the mystery is the games strength imo.

I think you will, although it's a bit short in action and horror--for a horror game,
but the story was top notch. the art is beautiful and the ambience was great.
It was a beautiful game. Still worth to buy!

As a huge fan of "The Cat Lady" and "Downfall" I was very interested in this project, as well.
I'd definitely recommend to buy this game and support the developers, considering how exciting it is to be introduced to foreign country's past and culture. "Detention" really got me interested in Taiwan's mythology and history of the White Terror. However, keep in mind that you won't get the same vibes from this game as from any of Michalski's projects.

If you remember "The Cat Lady" as good as I do, you'd recall how many cinematic moments it had with what would seem a simplistic game design. The synchronized editing, poetry, flashbacks, etc - these all come from movie realm, from art. Michalski always has very strong opinion about the world he creates via game, things are never out of place in "The Cat Lady" and ALMOST never in "Downfall", you know what I mean? He doesn't put frames or scenario fragments there for the sake of it, everything the developer adds serves the story and unique atmosphere.
"Detention" feels and plays a lot more shallow (gameplay-wise - the story, on the other hand, is good). Tension disappears quite fast, game world is based on one very small location that lacks exciting details, the game itself is relatively short so you wouldn't get much character development either. Unlike Michalski's games, it doesn't feel as something whole, something that developers tried to perfect to a tee. Some of the most visually impressive moments of the game barely connect to anything.
In my opinion, there's no replayability to "Detention", as well.

In short, don't get overhyped for "TCL" v2.0 - this game plays and feels a lot smaller and doesn't add anything new to the thriller genre and scares. Despite this, it's totally worth buying for captivating story, fitting music with lovely "Silent Hill" ambient to it and several outstanding art choices to support the storytelling.

You can die but you are taught how to react to the bad spirits that appear so that you can carry on with the game. I would say progression in this game is more about puzzle solving than dealing with monsters.
