What exactly happened to the fox? *spoiler warning*

Did the fox die? What does her disappearing into thin air mean? Is she a ghost with her kits at the end?
Someone pls explain.

You should tag your title with a spoiler warning.

As far as I rememeber, the vixen actually died at the end of chapter 5 of being heartbroken when reaching the giant tree. I mean, she lost all her cups at the end to that wolf. So her journey ended there for good.. Luckily, when Joshua reached the First Tree you see her reunited with her cups again. Also Joshua will read a (hopefully*) comforting message from his father. Both is connecting to a somehow happy ending for the fox family and Joshua.

* In fact, the message on the tree is a random message from a player in the world, who wrote an epitaph at the end of chapter 5. These messages will be stored and displayed for other players. So hopefully you get a nice one, but from my experience most players typed in reasonable messages. Fun fact: I got a blank message once because the player didn't entered anything :)

The normal ending is telling you more about the fate of the fox family, while there is a hidden alternate ending which will be telling you more about the feelings of Joshua father and is the more concluding and true ending if you ask me. You can find a video or an explanation how to get to it in the guide section if you are interested.

But feel free to look for it yourself if you want to. Only small hint: without a perfect game run you won't be able to find it, and it will still be missable.

Also, don't miss to visit the easter egg literally spoken in chapter 1 once. It is fun to do so by chasing all hares successfully once, then just take a look around..
