You are not alone.
I had that scene.
Same for me, and I was kinda disappointed... I had his father talking with a doctor in the hospital as well...
if Samantha ended up with Nathan in a happy life,
THERE WILL BE A PARALLEL UNIVERSE,
which Nathan did not become such a angry kiddo in LIS and all the sad things may not happen at the first place
Why? Because there is no reason that Nathan is still so 'hungry for Rachel' if he started a good relationship with Samantha. We all know the tragedy started first because of Nathan's anger.
However, if person like him still could be changed, then everything could be changed.
We need another game to tell what happened in the next 3 years and show the multy-ending that we could create
"My daughter has two broken ribs!"
"Nathan was clearly defending himself against her unwanted and inappropriate physical contact"
Call it what you will, but I think Nathan had problems long before he met Jefferson. The latter just screwed him up even more.
Btw, this is why I didn't want to intervene when Drew was bullying him. That the one person who deserves it.
But that's your problem because in my playthrough Nathan was nice
