I would say it's something in between, tho I'm more knee towards the first one!
And I can only speak for myself but if I think of LiS in general I also think of her as impersonating Chloe (no offense to Rhianna, she also does a freaking awesome job).
Nobody will care about this game in ten years. Other voice actors will care abut this strike in 10 years.
Hero.
Organize and resist. Strikes and boycoots are the only power the people of this country have.
The original life is strange was a once in a life time opportunity and she took it. Also with all the roles she's done since Chloe (Horizon Zero Dawn's Aloy for example) and her latest emmie win. I doubt she's regretting it. Also didn't she work on this game as an adviser so it's not like she abandoned it completely?
As far as the strike goes...the industry offered them everything they wanted, with the one exception being the extra bonus per 2 million units sold or whatever it was, and SAG-AFTRA refused outright. They want VAs to have a bigger payout from a successful game than most of the staff who slaved over it for years. It's greed, plain and simple.
I'll admit a bias, though. I despise modern-day unions.
Well, isn't it the same with actors in movies and series like TBBT? They get millions, but not the "regular" staff, of course. Games are becoming more and more like motion pictures, so why treat them differently? Just because you don't see their actual body?
Because voice-acting is not the same as body-acting. Obviously the industry can support itself without unionized VA's, as this game shows perfectly. I mean SAG-AFTRA contracts only make up less than 25% of the total labor-force in the video game industry. Not to mention if VAs get a cut, then programmers and mo-cappers will want a cut. Then artists. Then everyone. Next thing you know, we're paying 90 bucks for a game, just like the movie industry where tickets sell for $20+ and a tub of popcorn costs 8 bucks.
Yea they are different people. The person who played her in Life is Strange is seperate from this non union new chick. I admit. I do miss the old voice. Only because that's the only one I am used too. Only one I became familar with. She couldn't do the voice again due to her union on strike. They even considered not making the game at all because Ashely couldn't voice her. I like her but I love the game even more. This new chick nailed the voice.
At first you can tell the difference in their voices. It's easily passed though. I noticed it right away. Then as the game went on I became more used to the new girl. Don't get me wrong. The new girl is very very good.
I bet Ashely half expected the game not to go through. As much I want support people on a strike. They could very easily get other people if they wanted too. As the hiring of the non union voice actor shows. I'm sure after the strike is over. Ashely will have tons of jobs offers but no new games in recent memory is powerful as this one.
Hm, I guess you can't compare LIS to voice acting in general. LIS is the first game I wanted to know more about the VAs, I never cared before.
25%? Really? Man, this union has no leverage at all.
I'm pretty sure she won't. There is not a single VA from the first game.
To me acting in a movie is slighty different then voice acting. Dev's put in a ton of cash for a game to progress. The voice actors really didn't think of the storyline or the art etc. Yet they'll get a piece of future sales as if they had. To me I think movie actors put in a tiny bit more work than voice actors.
I really really wish she had done this game. People say who'll care about this game in 10 years? That's like saying who'll care about Dragon Age in 10 years. New and old fans, along with current are still there talking about it. She could been forever associated with Chloe. Now it's like they have two actors for same person.
Maybe this new girl will be even better. I know they actually considered not making this game when she turned down the role. I want her to be voice actor but I can live with it, if she's not.
