Why does this game need DirectX 11 to run?
The first game only needs DirectX 9, and the new graphics looks like the same to me.
I live in Brazil,and I can't afford a new video card by now.
I am so sad I will not be able to play this game,since the first one is so special to me.

The 1st game and all the games of DONTNOD runs in Unreal Engine. Now all of their current games will run in Unreal Engine 4. That engine using Directx 11 and 12. Remember Me and Life Is Strange using Unreal Engine 3. VAMPYR and the rest will use Unreal Engine 4 and more. As for the game now, Deck Nine using her own engine called StoryForge. So their engine wants that specs to run. They don't use the same engine like DONTNOD. Sadly I can't play it too. With the current PC I have. But I'll find a way. Today many things are expensive.

You could try dxcpl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-qsPyZfAJw
You can run dx11 games on dx9 or dx10 cards.The downside is that it doesn't always work and there probably is a lot of lag.

Yes. DONTNOD said with VAMPYR they want to use for the 1st time Unreal Engine 4. And of course something new. So yeah, we are doomed. You can watch Sbel videos, he make samples of Life Is Strange in Unreal Engine 4. I have to say that from the result I saw, Life Is Strange looks hella awesome in Unreal Engine 4.

I have ATI hd 4850 1gb graphic card. The game starts and runs fairly smoothly.

the game is running great on my Nvidia geforce 256 , smooth fps on ultra settings and 4k , sometimes dips below 230fps , but thats ok ...

230fps? for BtS...hmmm...it's like....using the LHC for detecting gamma rays instead of a scintillation counter?

But the most interesting: HD 4850 doesn't support directx 11!

Actually LiS: Before the Storm uses the Unity-Engine, Storyforge is just the toolset with which they put the scenes and stuff together.

As for the needed graphics-power, as ´mrS said LiS: BtS doesn't really need real high fps since it's an adventure game. An NVIDIA GT 1030, the smallest model of their current generation of graphics cards comes around 70 Euros where I live and would deliver enough to play the game in 1080p (with reduced details). Older generations like the GT(X) 900 series should be around for even less and all those cards support DX12.

LIS = UE
BtS = Unity
