I always thought Max and Chloe weren't part of the same year at school due to their age difference but Farewell retconned that as they seem to have been doing projects together at one point.
My primary school was a smaller Catholic one and there weren't enough teachers or students to require two classes per year group but too many for just one so they organised a conjuctive class with the top third of each year to pair up. So a combined Year 1 and 2 class, 3 and 4 and so forth.
My new headcanon is that a similar thing was implemented in Max and Choe's elementary (I think that's what it's called in the States?) school since Arcadia is a smaller town.
Huh. I'd always thought Chloe was a little older, but they would've been in the same grade if Chloe hadn't dropped out. Max just has one of those faces where she's gonna get carded buying alcohol well into her thirties because she'll still get mistaken for a teenager. Plus, the way Chloe had to grow up a few years early makes her seem older than 19. I didn't realize both of their birthdays had been specified and Max was over a year younger
I don't think any head canon or retcon is necessary though. When small towns like Arcadia Bay have their own schools at all, they typically combine classes at the lower grade levels like that as well, since they don't often have enough students, teachers or classrooms otherwise. They tend not to get split up until high school, so the two of them meeting because they were in the same class makes sense.
If Steph is Chloe's age, then she probably really did leave town, if only for college. Awesome.
Hopefully that creeper Ellicott got flattened tho. Eff that dude
I'd assumed he was just a late bloomer. In any case Mikey was homeless as well and forced to crash in his brother's dormitory. He may have been forced to move when Drew graduated even if his father didn't find work.
Alternatively, if Mikey was even younger than Max he may have been culled from Blackwell when it was reformed into a finishing/seniors only school.
Yeah, 18 months difference in Max and Chloe's age. It means that that first Halloween photo of them both as cookies was taken shortly after Max turned 6, so they'd been friends for over half Max's life by the time she moved to Seattle. She probably never had any memories of a time she wasn't friends with Chloe.
Also maybe Drew's sports career was a success, and he managed to take his brother and dad closer to him. Come on, guys, why not give a good life to one character at least!
