Anyway, after recently finishing the game I couldn't help but pay attention to Rachel's mothers tattoo in the ending scenes. On one of her arms she has a large butterfly tattoo. It made me think a little bit...and after realizing it came to me a possibility to Max gaining the power to go back in time could be because of Rachel's mom.
Rachel's Mom left the game very mysteriously. I wasn't sure if she left to start a new life, or live somewhere else; honestly part of me thinks she either died a drug addict or committed suicide (dark, I know, but she was talking about wanting to be free, and she was so regretful to the point where she gave up meeting or interacting with her daughter, Rachel).
If death is what happened, when Max returns to Arcadia Bay years later it would only make sense that the symbolism of a Butterfly could be Rachel's Mom. We notice the Doe later in the original and my guess is that's Rachel (though no thorough grounding behind that one). Just wanted to add fuel to the fire (pun intended) to see if anyone wants to explore this theory deeper or if anyone has counterpoints that could prove this wrong.
To me, the thought that the butterfly could really mean something this deep is cool, and it wouldn't be out of the developers' character to lead us to something like this.
