Quick Question on the new Tempo Swing
Is this only for the driver and fairway play? or does this effect the putting aswell?

It does not affect the putting.

New tempo swing?? That doesn't sound good. I've only played the first Golf Club and I like the analog stick swing mechanic. What does the new tempo swing entail?

Edit: I'm starting to get a little worried about TGC2 after reading some of the "improvements." 3 different swing difficulty levels? Ok. But adding "tempo" to even the easiest(which looks to be the current TGC swing) appears to be a bit convoluted. I don't know for sure but I'm worried I'm gonna be whipped by having to tempo my back swing at all. Also removing distance markers for clubs is gonna suck but I'm sure I can get used to that.

I just really love the controller swing mechanic like it is in the first TGC. I've pre-ordered TGC2 though and am very much looking forward to it. I'm sure I'll get used to the changes.

The Standard clubs (easiest difficulty) are easier to hit straight than the current TGC. The tempo component is lightly factored in with Standard clubs, plus it's easier to get perfect/perfect tempo with them.

I was using "Player" clubs (medium difficulty) when the beta ended yesterday afternoon. I could hit perfect/perfect tempo with them 55 to 60% of the time. The swing path is not as easy to track with Player clubs as the swing from the first TGC. My FIRs are like 58%, while my GIRs are 63%. I like the way it feels with Player clubs and my skill set. I can break 70 once in a while, but usually, shooting par feels pretty dang good.

I find the new swing mechanic to be so much deeper and calling on more of the senses to master. I had grown tired of the previous, one dimensional swing interface in TGC to the point that I quit playing it over a year ago.

That is very insightful and reassuring. Thank you JohnRC! I'm happy to hear that Standard clubs are easy to hit. Because distance increases with difficulty, I will be enticed to use the Player clubs and even the hardest clubs.

I am quite the opposite of you as I enjoy the "simplicity" of the swing mechanic in TGC. But I am intrigued by the deeper swing mechanics of TGC2 and look forward to working with them.

I'm curious as to what your handicap was while you played TGC so as to get a baseline to put your TGC2 stats into perspective.

The new swing mechanic is not so deep that you won't be able to "get it", but it will remind of when you've strayed from its parameters. The beauty is that you can feel what you did wrong, but that won't come until after the shot... still, you learn from it. My skills just aren't ready to take on Tour clubs full time now, even though I still lapse and give it a go. I shot a 78 with tour clubs on a real course recreation on Monday, then turned around and shot a 70 on the same course using Player clubs. I enjoyed both rounds though.

My handicap when I quit playing TGC was +8. Over the last two weeks using Player clubs, I've had one round of 65, a 68 and a 69. I had a number of 71's and 72's and a 75 and a 77.

This excites me. That you were able to enjoy a 78.

I'm pleased to hear you were a +8. This is my handicap. This also makes me realize that I will have to put in some substantial time to see results. I look forward to the challenge.

One thing to note also is that they have some really impressive and good tutorials going on, which you can just reply over and over and over again the same swing. This will make learning the new tempo mechanic quite a bit easier to adjust for before you hit the courses. (which I'm glad they did that)

We will only ever truely know how this will exactly work when we get the game in our hands and start to play, but I am too for more simplicity, I struggle to hit the ball straight in TGC1 every time.. I can get it most of the time, but far from 90-100% though, who knows, perhaps this will be easier for me...

But on a personal level, I really do wish HB Games would stop screwing around with the swing mechanics, god knows how many times they messed around with it on TGC1, and now its new and "reformed" again for TGC2 which really, there is nothing wrong with the swing in the first game...

One problem I had with TG1 was that i could not control the power of the swing cause I could not use the mouse properly for it. Or if I use the Xbox control it was hard to adjust the power swing. And even with the mouse swing in TG1 still felt very controlled and I just could not move the club slowly with out the club automatically swinging and hitting the ball.

With Tg2 could I use the mouse and go as slow or fast with the swing? Or can the xbox controller do this for TG2? Could I move the club very very slowly with out the club just doing an automatic swing?

And can you customize the controls in TG2 so you can use a mouse, keyboard or what ever control you want? Thanks!

sorry to cannabalise your post and thankyou for some really good info.

I was kinda' worried that the swing was gonna' be the same, like in TGC... quite awkward to swing straight with a 360 controller because the sticks are so sentitive around the centre.
Pre-purchased anyway and i'm really looking forward to this.

When your customising your emblem/logo with say...
eg.an animal.
Is it possible to upload/browse for your own vetor image etc..??

tia...

Oh, and did i mention thankyou. :steamhappy:

At this time we cannot upload our own logos or images to the game. But I wouldn't rule it out down the road and added in later.

yeah that was touched on in the first livestream, was like one of the very first questions poised to the developers as they were going through all the customization options with the clothes and stuff. So right now, we can't but who knows later on, I wouldn't have thought it would have been too terribly difficult to do, I think they are worried about copywrite content being uploaded... can't remember exactly what they said off-hand now....
