Now playing through on Hard, hoping to come across all scenarios where I have to make an honorable or dishonorable choice.
So far, I left the offerings at the tree grave, mountain statue, and I have no idea where the bucket carry thing is at. I did the cat thing in my first playthrough, so I know where that is and what to do there. Also gave the homeless man the gold this go around again.
Hopefully I manage to find them all, and obtain this sword in this playthrough.
I'm curious of how it stacks up against other weapons around that area of the game, too.. would be great if it was actually a viable option compared to, say, the Einlanzer.
One event that affects your "good points" that you didn't mention is an NPC in Swordbearer Temple who asks you if she should join. She appears before and during the Canaan section of the game. When she asks to join, you should reply, "Never give up hope" and she will join, you will get a "good point", and she will be in future scripted scenes.
Even though there's not SUPPOSED to be a way to get the Excalibur if you didn't behave admirably enough... if you promise to leave a review (notice I asked for a review, not a positive review) of Einlanzer on Steam, you can send me your game save file and I'll make it so you can get Excalibur. ;-) As someone else put it... yep, I can be bribed! lol. Send your save game file to oreocookiesp at gmail.
The Excalibur is ALMOST as powerful as the Einlanzer, but is different in other ways. The fully charged Einlanzer raises all your stats while the Excalibur deals holy damage, grants magic attack power, and grants RP each round.
Switz is right. 100% honorable actions are not required. I wouldn't worry too much about looting the coffins. :-)
Since you still read the forums: you made an awesome game, congrats !
It's at times like this that I wish I could have Excalibur.
The Diamond/ Vile weapons and armor are pointless in my book. I have them all, but there are better items available so I have no diamond/vile equipped.
I would trade all the Diamond/Vile items for a single useful item any day.
If there were vile versions of some:
- Viking Helm,
- Tower Shield,
- Rapier,
- Defender,
- Rune Blade,
- Stealth mask,
- Karati Gi,
- Ninja Garb,
- Sai,
- Pointy hat.
Then being evil would have some value.Current Weapon Rant:
Diamond = ok - temporarily during point in story.
Vile = a down grade from diamond.
Void = upgrade from diamond for basic attacks, but downgrade overall as accuracy loss effects skills.
Example: Basic attacks - Diamond bow compared to Vile and Void bows.
Vile has +5 damage + 3 agility, but -100 luck and -300 health.
Void has +72 damage +28.4 damage (damage * hit rate), -35 agility and 30% miss rate (calculated in lower damage).
Vile needs a buff to be viable for even a short period.
Then again, buyable items are pointless end-game, making an evil play though pointless outside the achievement.
I have also been thinking about doing a kind of counter to Excalibur. Any good historically evil weapons?
Brain Storming,
Brain Storming,
Not sure if this item already exists.
Goal = minor changes to game, open equipment path/build options, keep/improve current game balance.
______________
I would recommend an axe. Good side = Sword, Evil side = Axe.
There are plenty of axes in history, just none of them are named - which sucks.
Instead of a powerful named weapon I would recommend a potentially Useful Weapon that opens a unique build path.
A "Wulfgar Battle Axe" - which like the Wakizashi - would allow dual wielding. Give it +RP, but no health regen - as evil has access to Diamond and Vile weapons instead.
Possible placement location: Maybe have this weapon buyable late in the game (a one time buy?) from vile shop for like 1-2 mil would give an "evil $$ cost" while letting diamond/vile weapons remain viable. Or put a new person next to him selling the unique weapon.
Game stage balance:
Good Side: Excalibur = mid/late game.
Bad Side: Diamond/Vile = mid game THEN Wulfgar = Late game.
Notes: 2 options for dual wielding on a Wulfgar Battle Axe would effect what stats you give it:
1)
Option 1 is more balanced with Excalibur and gives more options.
> Allow Wulfgar to only "naturally" dual-wield with other axes (and shield of course) = +10rp on Wulfgar. (ninja scroll can buy-pass this to allow swords (or lances for knight), but costs the accessory slot - keeping current game balance)
2)
Option 2 is more aggressive but a forces a standard build for RP. At the same time it forces the Evil side to be more aggressive.
> Allow Wulfgar to dual-wield with swords as well = +5rp on Wulfgar (cause dual with rapier = +10rp). This would force a standard of Wulfgar + Rapier for RP. Shrinks endgame "best" weapon options, but keeps game balanced otherwise.
Personally I would choose #1. I don't like being forced into aggressive builds, especially as Victor is my Main Tank.

Developer thinking:
Making Evil side more aggressive would be a fun dynamic. Having in-game choice effect the main character (or team) to be more focused on attack/defense, or even just the unique equipment focused more attack/defense.
> In this case it's more the main character - no sane person would put Excalibur or a Wulfgar with +RP on anyone but Victor.
Here are 2 from several centuries ago.
