If you choose the second option when the game loads, then the default RPG maker keyboard controls are in use, including spacebar for interact/select. If you have already started a game with the first load option, you'll have to copy your save file to a different directory to play the other load option. F1 can rebind keys
That is true for the PC Gamepad optimization version. The script I have installed overrides the F1 functionality for the Keyboard/Steam Controller version.
Game goes back for that reason.
One suggestion though: the ''return to title'' button should be easily available through ESC and also during fights.
And why would I expect to play with a gamepad optimized version when I'm using a keyboard? The option that fixes a common problem seems really out of reach oddly enough...
