The animated coal man was specific to some interior views, and is up to the creator of the asset to implement. As far as I am aware, only about 5 interior views actually used the animated coalman (2 built-in ones, and a few 3rd party ones). There has never been an automatic implementation of this. If a creator wanted to implement an animated fireman, it would be up to them, but the cost (both in money, and in time) to generate an animated fireman may be out of the reach of some creators, since each cab view will require a whole new animation.
In the case of steam valves, most cab views will have operating valves when in Realistic Controls. Some may not, if the creator has not implemented them. You may find that in some cab views, so as to reduce the impact on performance (each separate control can potentially impact performance, so controls that don't actually affect the loco may not be animated), some controls may not be able to be moved.
In the case of steam particle effects, these can definitely be timed to the cylinders. Again it depends on how the creator has designed the asset, different assets will work differently.
Having made a large number of steam locomotives for Trainz over the last 14+ years myself, there's a lot of options available to creators, but it is entirely up to them to actually take advantage of them.
In regards to submitting edits, please see my reply to your helpdesk ticket regarding this.
For Surveyor movement, the further that you move the mouse cursor from the compass when you right click, the quicker the compass will move. You can adjust the sensitivity of this by following these steps:
1) Double click on the Trainz icon on your desktop
2) Click on Start Trainz
3) Click on the 'system menu' (3 horizontal bars) button on the top toolbar
4) Click on Interface Settings
5) Adjust the 'compass speed' to the desired level.
In regards to editing built-in or payware objects, this is not supported. Attempting to do so will result in errors, as these assets use compressed '.texture' files to reduce space. Payware assets have encrypted files that cannot be edited.

I want to really to Love this 2019, but the Privileges of the Payware and built in stuff, is a bummer.
I have been working with all of the Trainz Versions since 2004 and some before that, 15 Years of building Maps & experience of fixing issues until now.
There are a few Broken Builtin Payware parts that are defective from a clean install of this Game.
I did a full Uninstall and clean Install and those Maps are still missing Dependencies, But not a Game Breaker.
I got a Refund for the latest DLCs that I had Purchased due to the Poor Quality of the .texture files that I can not edit as I do not have the Privileges to do so.
Here is the Links to the Proof of TRS-2019 errors
The first link is the DLC Payware Nickel Plate High Speed Freight.
Defective front Headlight .texture file and looks very bad indeed.
Got a refund for this DLC due to I could not allow that Poor Quality Eye Sore. No Privileges to Repair it.

When I purchase someone's work then I feel like I partially own it and I am not Happy that the Privileges are Revoked, all files should be open source as The Flight Sim X was.
Freeware Content has always been of much better Quality than Payware.
I do completely agree with you about making my own Quality Content.
Creators need to not be Selfish with their Payware, I would never re-upload their work and or Steel their work for profit, never!
There is always errors in Payware most of the Time, and I just wanted to repair them for Quality, I will not Purchase anyone more DLCs with limitations ever again, Some of the DLCs are open source, but most of them not.
VMD Payware Ps4 Crescent Coleman Animations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fortune had that it was not a locked File
I have repaired the Coleman Coal animation, as it was a file Mismatch Version.
Built in Steam Engines have this issue also and it can be seen on YouTube Reviews as Fact.
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/808870828310616579/4F851A7E62D164DAF203617430B2AC519ECEC5D5/
I do know that Steam and Smoke effects can be set up to match effect, I am still learning this Process.
The Audio Engine in this Version is of lesser Quality than the older Trainz.
More noticable Pops and clicks of the Farm Animals, Birds and other looped files, again Locked for edit of the Wave Files.
when the Audio Option 3D Sound effect is turned off then all sound is no longer in Stereo 2 Channel, becomes Mono Audio. 3D introduces more undesirable Quality.
As far as the Surveyor Movement speed, I have already done those setting that you shared with me, it is a Mouse acceleration issue, and I will look into my Windows setting to fix it.
All Versions of Trainz had this sensitivity issue, but not as touchy as this version has, there should be a TRS-2019 Option to turn off Mouse Acceleration,
but I can live with that.
This version of Trainz-2019 does have better Quality looking and smoother Graphics than the past ones. I love the Interface Menu, nice easy Layout.
The Content Manager does have severe issue when doing s submit edits, sometimes work and a lot of the time has the access file error, I have to click a 3 times simultaneously to force it to submit edits.
I do feel badly about bringing up these issues, but this Version of Trainz can be so very much more with Service Pack Updates and fixes and that is why I am posting the issues for a hopeful fix in the Future of Trainz.
ZecRail & thilliam, very Kind Regards to you and the Community for your Help and Support.

1. It does appear in steam version 10032 in Drive Session.
2. It does not appear in non steam build 100240 Drive Session.
3. The defective light is visible in "Edit session" with build 10032.
4. The defective light is not visible in "Edit Session" with build 100240.
So yeah, there does seem to be a glitching happening.
Perhaps jjeff1955 you could submit a bug report to along with the screenshot? https://n3vgames.typeform.com/to/xRdryu If you do not want to do this, I can do it.
I was wondering if you have downloaded the rest of the built in assets in the "Asset Download" window as this is not mentioned. But I guess if you had already installed (then refunded) the Nickel plate you would have downloaded the rest :) .
I personally do not have any "faulty" errors with built in etc, but of course this does not help you. Have you done a manual Database repair?
As for mouse acceleration, I have it permanently turned off in the mouse software as it is just a pain.
Sorry to butt in, but I find this thread interesting.
I have already sent that Pic into the Help Desk a few Days ago, I need to go and check my email and see if they have answered yet.
Hopefully they will get another Service Pack Patch done soon.
I have spent over 30 Hours on Restoring the K5b Steam Engine from the VMD Payware that I had Purchased many Years ago and VMD is no longer around to update their stuff.
I just now finished the K5b and got everything working with it in this Version of Trainz.
Had to repair many Animations of the Steam and Smoke effect and the Coleman now Shovels the Coal, Lol.
As with all software, when you purchase it, you are purchasing a license to use it. Generally these licenses do not allow, or at minimum do not support, editing of that work.
In the case of Trainz, we have introduced encryption on payware content distributed by us so as to prevent redistribution of the content. Although you may not do this, there has been a lot of redistribution occurring, and as such we no longer allow editing of payware content.
We have not provided official support for editing of built-in or payware content in any version of Trainz, however previously there were some 3rd party tools that could edit some versions of the '.texture' format. Due to changes in the .texture format for 'builtin' content, and the introduction of the encrypted formats on payware assets, these tools may no longer work with builtin content, and will not work with payware content.
This only applies to built-in content or payware content distributed through our in-game 'asset download' tool (ie via the DLC system). Payware content purchased from 3rd party websites, and downloaded as a cdp, zip, rar, or similar file can still be edited as normal.
Unfortunately we cannot control 3rd party created content when it comes to how it is made or configured, and in the case of sound files, Trainz now requires that sound files be made properly (instead of using work-arounds that are incompatible with effects such as doppler). This does mean that poorly made sound files will show issues compared to previous releases, but there is nothing that we can do to fix this without removing newer or more advanced sound functionality.
In regards to the issues with submitting content, the error that you have reported (file access errors) indicates that Trainz has been directly prevented by other software from manipulating the content filer. This may be caused by software that is still accessing the edited file, or may be caused by security software or security settings in Windows interfering with Trainz being able to manage the files/folders. Unfortunately we cannot prevent other software from interfering with Trainz.
Regards
Having heard back from QA, their findings found the defective headlight beam occurs when the setting is at 8x anti-aliasing. It does not appear at 4x.
I was asked to test locally (my machine) the findings with both the steam and non steam build:
Quoted result:
"Tested both versions at 8x anti-aliasing and there is the abnormality with the beam.
Tested both versions at 4x and there is no abnormality."
Is interesting how the change in anti-aliasing causes the abnormality.
Thank You for letting me know, I will have to Purchase it again to test it, but I can test other Lamp issues that I have found with the Night lamp Alpha Bumps not working correctly.
I have also narrowed down why the Content Manager wants to hang about 40% of the time when submitting edits, seems to be related to the Steam Game Server.
That is why the Dev's have said that they have tested it on there systems and all is ok.
They need to test it with the Steam Server running.
When I had the very long hang I closed the steam server and it submitted quickly with out that error.
Seems to be Steam Game Server related.
Thanks for the Heads up.
