Apparently they're really worried about alienating their non steam users if they use the workshop... It's really stupid. This would make steam experience much easier. This game without custom content. Without it, it makes the game just a lot slimmer. It's really stupid that they have a 75% sale on the steam version and don't have the same sale on their website version. I don't trust buying games off websites that I can just buy off of steam. I hope the devs wake up and just use the workshop. Or at least make it much, MUCH easier to download custom content without having to deal with "Authorization" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I checked my steam version last night and this morning and it authorised fine so contacting the helpdesk as you have done is the best option. Hopefully you will all be up and running soon.
Buying off the Shop website store is fine. I purchase my non steam versions of trainz and other products from it. I mainly purchase Trainz on steam to support the franchise.
The Download Station ls an excellent depository for thousands and thousands of content from fellow trainzer fans from historic trainz versions to now and has been around for quite a while.
Here is some history about the dls https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Download_Station
Steam workshop was created in 2011.
Authorisation is needed to check the username and p/w. Steam and non steam versions need to authorise. Other games (not just trainz) also check your username and p/w - especially if going through a launcher of types to outside of steam. Majority of times it works, sometimes it doesn't. I do understand it can be frustrating,
PS. One thing you could try if you haven't already, is remove your username and password from the Trainz settings on the Launcher, shut trainz down and relaunch. Then re-enter the exact username and password make sure it is the exact username and p/w that you used to register at MyTrainz on the Auran website. It is like a refresh. https://www.auran.com/planetauran/YC_main.php
I've tried this method tons of times before. My ticket on the help desk is still open with no reply. I understand that the Download Station is useful, but I feel like a lot of these problems could be fixed if we didn't have to download content off a separate place. I would really enjoy if steam users got more support on these things. Focusing on one side of your player base just because they use your website is really annoying.
If you want steam players to be able to enjoy Trainz just as much as the people who buy it off the website, then show more support.
This doesn't mean I want exclusive DLC or stuff like that, I just want it to be just as easy to download custom content on the steam version as the Trainz website version. I really hope this issue gets resolved soon because I'm getting really tired of using the same trains.
Steam and non steam users have the same authorising checking process and
Steam users can download from the download station just the same as non steam users -there is no difference.
:). There definitely is a lot of locomotives on the dls to choose from. Hopefully you will be rapt when you see what is on there after your issue is fixed.
Anyway, hope it gets sorted soon everyone.
