So, weight gain.
What characters can experience it? Everyone?

From what I played, only Morgana for now.

All of the five main character can experience it in certain situations, except maybe Darious who has a transformation where he gains weight, but that's not really the main thing about the transformation.

Mila, Morgana, Leeko (at least 2 versions), Darius... sort of, Tam, Rourkie. I'm not sure how many I'm missing.

So all but Darious eh? That's pretty good coverage; maybe he'll get something in an update.

bear darious is pretty fat

Mila, Morgana, and Leeko. Tam-Tam arguably; she has some transformations that are somewhat chubby/curvy but the weight gain isn't the main aspect of it. Same with Darious; one of his transformations is quite fat but it's not the main point of the transformation.

Rourkie can gain weight, and he does, but you don't ever get to see it happen; you only see the after-effects. Queen Nekhta gains a little weight in one transformation but it's not the main focus of the transformation.

It's mentioned in dialogue that Kate gained weight from an encounter with a coin but you don't get to see it happen; she's already fat when you meet her.

As someone who got this game unrelated to any online community appeal, and rather as someone curious about trying a hopefully good/well written game. I do feel a little thrown off by this stuff.

And one of the cooler visual transformations is blocked behind Morgana dying, which was frustrating for me, I thought there was going to be some visual/body customization unnasociated with the narrative choices, but that's probably my own fault.

I do wish some of the more so fetishishtic content was a bit more optional, since large story paths are placed behind them it seems, and I wasn't really expecting this when I purchased the game.

I just like RPG's and story based games, I didn't know about all of this stuff until after I got it.

Random Spoilerific rant that should probably be in a different thread.

On a complete and utter tangent, I'm not super sure how I feel about the story focus on alternate realities and time travel, I personally find that often ruins the grounded weight of stories that I often enjoy. The way some characters jump between the mirror into different plot lines, and have a somewhat vague impact on their new stories, and the anti climatic and often depressing endings that always seem to be negative in some way, along with the apparently irreversible transformations which sometimes have very alarming affects, effectively killing people, all feels a little... off.

The Goat Morgana thing was really awful and tragic to me, and I felt there was a surprisingly muted reaction from everyone for what was essentially a character death, it was very creepy to me. Especially since there was a romance just before, leading up to a complete identity death from a (presumably?) comedic couple, which everyone just shrugs over.

The endings which discussed aging and death also freaked me out, but that's more so a personal fear of mine rather than a writing flaw. I tend to get unnerved by characters (especially ones I enjoy) aging and suffering mortality in that manner in media, it's not a rational complaint, but nonetheless I think about it.

It's hard to say I would favour any ending, because they all have a (somewhat awkward in my opinion) tragic or depressing aspect to them, that makes it hard to find any appealing. And the ending blurbs that all describe how the positive wish made esoterically sucks and makes the whole quest/meaningless pointless sort of dampens any impact.
Although the concept of being able to wish for everyone to be happy, the end, and this being hidden behind an elaborate treasure hunt is a little weird on its own. It reminds me of how Bioware had no idea what came after the Synthesis ending, since it was incredibly awkward to just have the entire universe made redundant due to space magic.

The plot line that humanizes the rival pirates is also the plotline with the creepy identity death for example, and otherwise they mostly were just hanged offscreen.
Most of the queens plotlines involves them doing some extremely horrible things and everyone just sort of shrugging and continuing to go on a treasure hunt (with an incredibly anticlimactic wish that seems to always make the world worse for no reason making the entire point of their creation pointless), instead of any form of retaliation, development or consequence, including both queens being sort of interchangeable and not really having any closure to their plot threads or the guard captain, who all do horrible things in some timelines with no repurcussions, and in others just sort of exist and let things happen in a bizarre fashion.

I get that it's not supposed to be perfect, but the way the characters personalities are portrayed it sort of all feels blurred, and with someone always dead it would always feel a bit weird to keep track of while playing. It's hard to consider anyone deceased when they sort just die randomly and are alive at other random points, also ruining the impact from killing any opponents when they are just alive in another timeline anyway, which apparently all join together so it doesn't matter, time travel and alternate realities are so messy in storytelling gaah.

There seems to be some serious untapped potential storytelling and questions with the bookkeeper and mirrors (especially with the reality jumping), which made me suspect some kind of true ending to tie things together, but from what I'm reading I can't see anything like that. I know a happy ending might not be what the devs are going for, but everyone just sort of feels concurrently disjointed and blurred together in regards to character development, so it feels like there is a lack of character development/closure for each branch. Including development of friendship/romance.

I just thought I would put my two cents in since I'm hearing an expansion is planned
(although the devs probably wont see this and I probably don't make much sense)

Those are very valid points! I appreciate you, and everyone that’s been posting in the discussion group, sharing their thoughts on the game.

When we started this game we very much decided to throw everything we could at the wall to see what would stick. This is in part why some paths in the game are structured differently and focus on different plot elements. I do agree that a few of the areas you mentioned were weaker than others. Likewise there was the looming reality of managing the balance between breadth and depth that also left us feeling the endings were too curt. Its one reason we wanted to go back and add in those epilogues.

One thing we intend to do, especially if we have the opportunity to make an entirely new game, is hone in on the elements of our storytelling that people seemed to enjoy. After all, this project would not have been possible without all of your support and it’s important to us that we take into account your opinions on the project! Likewise we feel we’ve learned a lot both in just working on this project as a whole (as this was our first game), and listening to people’s thoughts about the game.

I definitely agree there’s untapped potential left in The Pirate’s Fate world that we could, and should, flesh out. We’re still structuring our options for an expansion, as we want to make sure whatever we decide to do we give it proper justice. So hearing this feedback is very helpful.

So thanks again and I’m glad the game was able to prompt so much discussion!

Thank you for the kind response! I apologize that what I wrote was so negative, it is easier to express critique than praise.

Edit: You don't have to read all of this I type too much for my own good.

The art is well drawn, even for things that aren't to my taste, the presentation is overall quite nice and clean, with good transitions and dialogue cuts. I like the music, although the audio balance with both it and the voice acting often made them sound a bit muted. The voice acting didn't make or break the experience, it sounded reasonable, and added impact to more heavy philosophical speeches and statements, and wasn't to overt or common to sound tacky or cheesy (I personally don't at all mind simply having text though).

I am really impressed by the amount of branches there is, and how there are some impressive changes within the journey you wouldn't expect. There are more subtle differences too, it reminds me of Wolf Among Us, which they advertised for its choices based on time, and which location you investigated first, and how that changed the dynamic and scenarios you faced. What information you had, what you will learn, the state of things when you visit somewhere etc.
I saw similarities here with how you get information from one path, and that often elucidates another, and how depending on which path you experience first, each player learns things in a different order.

Some of the story threads feel like an unfinished puzzle, I am not sure how far into the game I have gotten, to my awareness I have finished most of the branches mentioned in the forum, but I haven't filled up a quarter of the gallery.

I was pleasantly surprised by the traveller which showed up in one of the titan paths, that hinted at, but didn't quite answer, a lot of overarching questions, which was quite interesting

I do like the idea of your thoughts transforming you, but I didn't quite enjoy getting funneled into certain aesthetic designs within paths, although that is most likely me not knowing what I was getting into, since I'm a normie and not really into any of the subculture people on this forum talk about, which I mostly ignored, since I quite like the main storytelling and character building.

I also felt like your aesthetic in some plot threads extremely harshly changed your personality, and reduced choice and roleplay. The "Angel" and Titan in particular felt rather forced and like a big 180 in personality and funneling choices. I much preferred how the "Tough" and "Devil" scenarios played out, providing you more freedom and defying preconceptions.

As far as story threads I enjoyed, I thought Morgana's royalty character development was very well done (character death was troubling, but given proper weight and mourning). Tam Tam has engaging character development and relationship building, everyone on the main crew is quite interesting. The temple was quite interesting.

Quite a few dialogue choices don't seem to change anything other than immediate responses, I noticed few subtly change dialogue later, which I quite like though. I do like the roleplaying potential some provide though.

I do wonder if transformations are reversible, because if not, it's kind of horrifying that people can be changed without their consent, I would enjoy the choice to maintain fitness to combat a change since it seems a bit at odds with pirating, but that goes back into the other tangent.

I quite like the Cave and Royalty epilogues, I think they hint at some cool stuff and show potential. I avoided the cake one, that isn't for me :p

I might be a minority and I just got something that isn't targeted at me, and was built with a more niche market, which is quite fine. I wouldn't mind content being a bit more optional or having a bit more freedom with customization, but personal whims shouldn't dictate anything. I like narrative focused content discussing transformation of ones character and humanity (their thoughts and personality evolving on their own and transforming in reflection lightly), and how that tied into the narrative of choosing your own fate and tearing down boundaries within yourself. The other stuff is obviously for other people which is fine.

I really like the thought pieces at the endings, despite my complaint that they aren't very cohesive with the narrative or apply as endings in my opinion, they bring up interesting discussion points I quite like. When I say esoteric I mean more so in what they actually mean for the world, since they are so curt they don't really provide any actual info. Plus absolutes sort of contradict the complex nature of humanity so things like "no one can lie" sort of feel a bit tacky. I'm a fan of the Cave epilogue because of how it kept the world dynamic and more logical.

I also apprieciate that opinions aren't funneled, and you are mostly able to respond rationally and not get railroaded into being guilted for things you didn't control or have much choice over. And that the more open philosophical questions are discussed naturally but it doesn't force any world views and fleshes out character development in an interesting way. When a character calls you evil, you are able to respond in much the same way a player would think, dissecting the point rather than just accepting it in a black or white manner. Numerous choice based games try and guilt you for making one of the narrow choices they provide which sort of just makes me roll my eyes, when I was forced into the scenario in the first place. So I apprieciate this approach shown in several branches.

I type far too much for my own good, I think I got it all out of my system. I really quite like the game! I'm happy to have gotten it.
