il still try and beat it though! braging rights are always cool. or just pride.. hm
in any case thanks, im glad you guys are quite passionate about this.
as am i, since this mixes 3 of the things i love!
warhammer, deckbuilding and turn based strategy.
got past the level with half of the enemies chasing a summoned wolf, mostly ignoring the enemies, after passing the bridge. The AI seems to be targeting and zerging the weakest target.
Can't say it was satisfying by beating the mission with what i would call an exploit, but i did get a good laugh out of it.
In the second try I managed to complete the full mission however (with the side objective) - the latter made it a bit tough at times. I did not use the "wolf decoy" but the following tactic:
- Took terminator with +3 defense at start, +1 defense for every kill, +1 defense for every + 1 defense and +25 health for each meele attack. As sidekicks I chose the grenadier and the flamer (both lvl 8).
- At the beginning, move forward with caution. For the first bloodletters, just wait for them around the starting area as you dont want to trigger the next wave of terminators near the bridge at the same time. Again after the terminators move forward to the bridge and fight the 3 jumpack guys (+ some bloodletters maybe).
- I then slowly made my way a bit more up towards the gate. which spawns another 3 jumppack guys. then went a bit to the side to kill the 3 bloodletters on the right.
- the regular spawns of 2 bloodletters are annoying but most of the time you can avoid damage at all if you just postion yourself so that they have to spend 2 turns running at you. then you can kill them before they can move again (flamers, rocket launchers, meele).
- I then went to the gate and from there around to the different switches that pop up - the 2 bloodletter spawns are still continuing. I always killed them right away so that they do not amass.
- Once the door was open I moved to the left side to get the crate. Go cautiously on the bridge, it will trigger another 3 jetpack guys. I committed a mistake there. while fighting I sent my wolf further back over the bridge to get the crate. this leads to another 4 bloodletters spawning (the 2 at the gate still spawn regularly too). At that point it got a bit hairy but I somehow managed to kill the bloodletters + jetpack guys. I would recommend to get the crate only after the jetpack wave is beaten.
- At the gate, wait a bit behind with your squad (and with a low effort count). At this point the wolf is very helpful as you can send him in slightly and the last 4 enemies spawn (2 terminators + 2 assault?). They will kill the wolf but now you can wait a bit outside for them and when they spent their turns to run at you can probably kill 2-3 of them with aoe + meele etc. Thankfully with this last spawn of enemies the constant 2-bloodletter spawn stops.
- So in summary: Its possible to beat the mission with "normal" play, but you need to go cautiously and the mission therefore requires quite some time. Especially near the gate you sould be carefull moving around. if all your guys end up with a lot of effort due to moving around twice and the bloodletters spawn... thats quite a bit of damage you will take.
I would only go for the crate only if you still have a lot of health. It adds another challenge, but its def. possible (but probably not yet balanced for the pc version)
they will spawn 3 chaos assault marines. so i baited them to the start of the area and stun them with my honor guard. because they are slow as ♥♥♥♥ and cant move far. you can outrun them with jetpacks and spint.
meanwhile i use 2 terminatorrs. indeed the super heavy hero is insanely good! hes tanky as heck. alongside a crapton of melee weapons i can do about 500~700 damage a swing.
i kept my second terminator at the bridge so once i activated the trigger at the door i could instanely activate the second and third ones (a bit buggy, if ya stand on a trigger when it activates it wont play the cutscene for the next trigger)
also.. wolf can opperate terminals :< who knew! but yeah in the end i baited a lot with my marine and terminator and got the chest.
in my opinion the enemies should have less health or spawn a whole lot less. because in other to obtain the chest you will spawn 7 enemies. ontop of the endlessly spawning blood ltters.
with your marines doing very little damage its kind of ruff to take them all out >,<
I completed the Gauntlet with Power armor, Einar and Ray. Overwatch overwhelming. Those poor Bloodletters were running right into the crossfire, dying instantly. I'm quite sure it can be finished with many other tactics though.
I'm glad to hear you finally overcame the mission, Viktor :)
@wicked sick: Tend to agree with you. I also like the challenge. The only thing is that the mission gets a bit long with the unexpected switch tour detour. Therefore failing eventually after a long long mission with constant spawns is a bit frustrating - not due to the difficulty but due to the time that was spent. I would prefer difficult a difficult but somewhat shorter mission (e.g. less constant spawns but larger spawns when going for the secondary objective or something like that).
