CV dilema
im about to master another commander skill but i cant decide which would be best to master first between proximity fuse or hidden menace ... more torps dmg or better plane survival chances aka more direct dmg or more long term dmg

The longer your plane survives the better, but it is also depending on the ship

both soviet and brit are gonna hit lvl 18 ... well brit first commander is 27k from promotion and soviet is at 42k from promotion im just out of any bonus but the 100% ones so its at about 3k per match on average and i think imma go with hidden menace cuz it also affect all squadrons and not just about +380 dmg per torps sure it may be the difference between a BB sink or not but its not worth losing even just one more plane per runs

Honestly would never take hidden menace on any CV. Its normally possible to get close enough without it and overextending because of better stealth will get you sunk sometimes, plus your planes take longer to get out of vertical AA range when you recall them so you will likely lose more of them. I also wouldnt take proximity fuse :)

im curious why you wouldnt use proximity fuse okay you cant get citadel hit anymore but it does reduce the target ship' torp protection by 10% okay it doesnt rly matter on light CL and DD... and that one sub who didnt dive for some reason lol, but it does matter on BBs, heavy CL and CV and hidden menace reduce the time to get out of the vertical AA range after the atck run or recall its the time once they've reached safe altitude to get back to the ship that is extended by 50% so basically yeah it takes more time to get the planes back but you get more of thm back while the preparation timer is still going also the ship detectability and repair party is just a bonus i dont rly need thm since i never extend much in my CVs only time i capped was when we were just me and another cv left otherwise its always out of line of sight or 16km away from last spotted ship giving me a 3-5km buffer zone depending which CV im playing and always moving while in open sea, dead in watter in range on BB fire is asking for trouble lol but hey it comes with sooo
edit: but yeah maybe with the brit cv line using repair specialist, improved engine boost and last grasp instead of proximity fuse would b a better choice but think imma stick with proximity fuse for the soviet line since u cant use last grasp or repair specialist

Hidden menace was (and still is) bugged as far as im aware and the slower return speed actually means the planes would be in flak longer when recalled. Its got some narrow uses, but honestly the skill is primarily supposed to affect your hull when there is a strong argument for throwing all your points at your planes.

Proximity fuse is also a little narrow, and since its only useful when striking targets that actually have torpedo protection systems you have buffed 1/3 of your planes (for most CVs) against maybe 1/3 of your possible targets. Theres certainly a small increase in damage against bigger targets plus a slight increase in flood chance, but again from my point of view im very rarely striking BBs until ive dealt with high value targets such as DDs so its got very limited utility until you are already winning (at least for me).

They're in flak much longer and are slower easier targets for it.

well thats actually good to know lol kinda lucky i decided not to do the last match before promotion yesterday... or this morning... googled and yes it is true its bugged ... kinda annoying tbh cuz that would've been an awesome perk also think ill still be sticking to proximity fuse i mean the only ship that doesnt have tps are the ships im not using torps on anyway, far easier to sink a DD with the rockets or skip bombers the only dd you can reliably sink with torps are bots so yeah imma use repair specialist, improved engine boost and last grasp or search and destroy for the soviet line instead of hidden menace
edit: also maybe i should point out im alrdy using enhanced armor, survi expert and aircraft armor

Since you're past tier 6, Take your time in tier 8. You should be controlling flak, practicing plane management, choosing correct targets. Watch your progress and how your doing compared to other CV players on one of the popular sites.

Once you average good or very good numbers, then move to tier X.
