NC: Like it or Hate it?

Heard great things about this ship, so I was quite excited to try it out. Holy♥♥♥♥♥♥was I dissapointed.

This thing's 406mm guns have a 701m/s muzzle veloctiy on it's AP shells. That's the lowest muzzle velocity of any non-secondary gun. As a result I'm 5k average damage below the NA server average. The 2.0 sigma is nice, the AA is nice, the high AP damage is nice, the plunging effect is nice, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can't hit anything smaller than a GK outside 15km since the ship in question is moving fast enough to make it difficult to judge where my slow♥♥♥♥♥shells will land relative to the ship I'm aming at.

My verdict is that this thing is designed to be enjoyable for veteran battleship captains: high skill floor and not much higher skill ceiling. Trying to just pick the NC up as a novice BB player is a grueling learning experience.

Now that my little story is done, how's your experience with the NC? Love it or hate it?

I didn't like it when I played it grinding the US BB line. I think I would probably like it now tho. I play better now, and that's probably part of it. I very much like Alabama and they're similar.

It was a nice ship once, but like the Iowa, it's simply outclassed by UK, french and most premium Battleships. It's not as bad to be worth skipping for a massive amount of free exp (especially since the iowa is in exactly the same spot), but it might be tough to "grind" further if you aren't very good or experienced with battleships.

I wouldn't say so.. NC is supposed to be better because it's got better accuracy. I've read that, not seen it myself). When ranked is T8 it's a very popular ship there.

Out of all the BB's I've tried the NC is easily my favourite. Yes, the ballistics take a few games to get used to, but when you do it is very good even against DD's at 10km. I like the way you can get punished if you give broadside but nose in it's very strong. I've managed to cit a few German BB's thanks to its plunging fire.

For once I disagree with Sidiian and find it holds up very well against the newcomers, however my BB experience is minimal.

In the last two months, on the EU Server, the NC had:
48.04% Winrate, 44,974 average damage and a K-D-ratio of 0.86.
The Alabama had:
49.32% Winrate, 51,028 average damage and a K-D-ratio of 1.05.
The Monarch (UK) had:
49.23% Winrate, 50,432 average damage and a K-D-ratio of 0.92.
The Richelieu (France) had:
50.30% Winrate, 52,558 average damage and a K-D-ratio of 0.98.

The other t8 BBs - with the exception of the Tirpitz - are just better. Even in the hands of good players. And it doesn't help that the NC isn't very easy to play because of her slow shell speed. :/

What's wrong with the Tirpitz? Besides the like 75% of players using the Tirpitz shooting HE, she's a good ship. My first game in my Bismarck was amazing, and secured my free Indianpolis on the last day of missions to get that heavy cruiser during the USN cruisers event a couple months ago.

I also really want to try the Monarch and Richelieu. I love the AP on the 381mm Mk I/II that the QE/Warspite/Hood use. I just get really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ matchmaking when using my QE/Warspite though: I have a 26.67% Win rate in my QE but 61,195 average damage, which is 16,743 higher than the NA server average...

I also really enjoyed French BBs, getting the Normandie for free, and getting crazy winrates on both the Normandie and Lyon. I'm excited for Jean Bert as well, with it's Worcester level of AA.

I think it's because her low DPM, having to show quite a lot of broadside to use her DPM and worse accuracy.
The torpedoes and secondaries aren't making up for that, and the Bismarck is better in most cases because she has way more impact when fighting over a cap thanks to her german hydro (the german hydro is the best in the game right now).

NC is one of the best T8 BBs, once you are accustomed to the slow shell speed, the superb accuracy with shells that retain a lot of penetration even at long range, allows you to punish all manner of ships. The concealment helps you move around easily to nom on the broadside of exposed ships. The AA keeps CVs from being as troublesome as other BBs at that tier.

Publicly available server wide stats are not very useful to evaluate different ships with each other especially when they are very close to each other statistically.

The North Carolina is a strong ship. Perhaps stronger than the Alabama.
Those guns really hit very hard when you get used to the shell speed. the plunging fire seems to help with getting cruiser citadels

Love my NC, It was my first Tier 8 BB when it was just that and Amagi.

don't show broadside in the NC since i think it can citadelled. its not your typical BB either. need to aim a lot further due to that shell speed.
