Edit: I feel like it's one of those ships for collectors. Collectors will want it because of it's history. You don't see them in battle often, but it's story is more interesting than many ships.
One of the only two tier 7 ships in the game with radar.
But, otherwise? It's manageble, but not particularly great. If you like New Orleans in the game, then, yes, you might want to buy Indianapolis. If you don't, then you'll just be wasting your money.

It's because heavy USN cruisers lack the improved penetration angles up to tier 7 while an IFHE Helena produces a never ending stream of shells that penetrate most targets no matter what.
If you don't have the NO yet, then you should remember to stay behind cover a lot, NEVER expose your broadside, and remember to switch shell types depending on target.
And, Indianapolis is one of only three tier 7 ships with radar. So make sure to use it tactically.
