it was in no part on Steam's behalf that ~forced~ WG to make those choices.
so Steam shouldn't be the soapbox to stand on to review bomb a game.
I'm not sticking up for Valve in any way, shape, or form
(no corporation or company is without their faults and questionable choices),
but please don't risk making things potentially harder for the rest of us because of personal opinion.
"To be offended is a choice we make. It is not a condition inflicted or imposed upon us by someone or something else."
If you're not supportive of the direction any given game is going in because its developers/publishers/leadership are continually making questionable choices that upsets a portion of their player base, JUST STOP SUPPORTING THE GAME.
If you don't like a company's business model, just DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
There are a thousand other games available on Steam who'd gladly take your money.
Can you discuss this topic on Wargaming's Discord? On their Official forums?
It is true that there are a group of individuals on this (and other) forums who are slavishly devoted to Wargaming and defend every criticism regardless of its veracity.
And although I'm sure some of them receive some compensation I do not think it fair to call all of them "paid shills."
Some of them are just fans like the viral girl screaming "Leave, Brittney alone!"
And for some there is a certain degree of transference. People often identify with the products they consume. Be it news source like Fox News or CNN or be it alcoholic beverage like Budweiser or Miller Lite for some psychological reason some people interpret criticism of a product they consume as an attack upon themselves. And they will lash out at the critic with a ferocity totally out of scale with the situation.
Look at how baddogs attacked Jingles:
He called the man "a buffoon." Given the thread he chose to do this in and the fact that Jingles has joined his fellows in denouncing Wargaming's practices and the CC program it is not hard to apply a motive to baddogs' attack.
Warships is a product one consumes. Wargaming acts in their own motivated self interest, i.e. greed, to maximize their market share and profits. They most definitely don't care about any individual customer's criticisms. And it would seem that they don't give a damn about the opinions of their content creators.
Why anyone would want to identify so closely with such an organization that they would feel it necessary to attack the credibility of someone like Jingles or insult his character is remarkable. But many a bar fight occurs because some toothless redneck expressed an opinion about another toothless redneck's choice of beer.
is I hate the gimmicks.
They lost sight of being a visually-historic representation of what built all 3 of their World of... games (Tanks, Warplanes, Warships),
and started either fabricating fakery altogether (bogus tank designs),
blatant P2W whale bait (and players stupid enough to spend >$100 on a single pixel ship),
grinds for woefully-lacking early-access ships that aren't going to be premiums after all (and as progression ships, won't take half as much effort, XP, credits, or frustration to acquire).
gave up on their own merits and have to use someone else's franchise fame to sell anything now (GI Joe, Transformers, Godzilla/Kong, Warhammer, etc, ad infinitum),
I go thru these historic collections I'm trying to complete for game achievements, and see just how many ships from actual history, who actually contributed to something famous in naval warfare, and they don't even exist in the game except as a brief anecdote in the achievement, rather than being one of the ships we can acquire. But here: have some space ship skins and anime schoolgirls to leer over.
I would give them more money for content if they stuck with genuine historic content and all the ships made famous from the early 1900s thru WW2. But instead they choose to leave out so much viable content in favor of whale bait gimmicks.
I see 21 ships listed in that Hunt the Bismarck collection/achievement alone, and half of them aren't even in the game.
But, we got whale gimmicks and loot crates targeting minors, so,...
In that, the foolish whales can cover down on my mostly-closed wallet until the developers remember their roots and get back to what started their games' greatness: historical accuracy.
I get their need for stats tweaks because, typical russian game development, it's an arcade shooter just with historical visual models.
But at least actually HAVE the ships History remembers.
Everything can't be a tier 10, and every customer isn't gonna shell out that kind of money.
Gimmicks are emblematic of a team which has run out of good ideas.
The constant backpedaling is evidence of a team which either cannot decide what type of gameplay they want or can't evaluate their own testing to know how their changes effect the meta. They added Deadeye skill which exacerbated the static gameplay and encourage even more island camping only to remove the skill and give aircraft and airstrikes to a variety of ships to discourage island camping. They also nerfed secondaries only to now buff them again. One must wonder who is making these decisions and based upon what information.
Apparently, they were not listening to their CCs and the feedback CCs were trying to transmit from their vast community of subscribers.
Partnerships with momentarily popular franchises which have no connection to the game for a quick cash grab is evidence that the marketing dept is driving the development. That is never a good sign as when Disney partnered with GE to create a $5,000 Star Wars themed refrigerator to coincide with the release of one of the movies. I doubt even George Lucas would want one of those monstrosities in his rec room. Look up pics of it if you want. It's horrendous.
And more loot boxes as a means to sell Premium products is evidence of financial troubles. $550 worth of Summer "sale" loot boxes to get a Tier IX, a T-VII and 4 chances at a Black ship? That's hardly a sale when a T-IX can be purchased for $80 and a T-VII for $60 any day of the week. WG's idea of "sale" does not conform with even their own definition from past events.
From where I sit, Wargaming appears to be in the midst of an internal struggle to right the ship before they go bankrupt. We have no way of knowing what the financial status of the company is since it is not like a publicly traded company in the West with public disclosures but their choices have the appearance of desperation. Anyone who has ever worked for a company which is about to fold will know of what I speak.
He's hardly a CC. He's a casual player, as far as WoT is concerned. His content is mediocre garbage whose main audience is casuals, which is precisely what WoT's playerbase is turning into ever since the introduction of overperforming premium tanks in 2018, aka, the Defender.
There are far better content creators than Jingles in both EU & CIS regions, some of them have thrice the amount of subs he has. What does that make them?
I could hardly care about Jingles or any of his content. There's little redeeming quality.
If as you say he is "hardly a CC" and there are many "far better content creators" in the EU & CIS then can you explain why Wargaming literally reward his efforts by putting his avatar into the game as a ship commander?
Do those other CCs to which you refer have their avatars in the game?
Also, while I'm not going to accuse you of being a shill for Wargaming, is there some reason a review of your post history finds no other threads in this forum to which you have felt the need to post?
This is a true statement. It is also true that there is no law which prevents me from being skeptical of another's motives.
If you think I am a shill for Wargaming just read my review for the game. If you think I am a shill for the CCs then read my post where I compared their "complaints" to those of snowflakes employees with little to no actual experience who get their feeling hurt when the bosses refuse to take their advice on how he should run HIS company.
But while we are on the subject, for whom are you shilling?
