Smoke Screen should work both ways
Shouldn't a smoke screen work both ways?

That is what happens in real life. You pop smoke and the enemy cannot see you but you can't see the enemy either. I was just sunk because some turd popped a smoke screen and then shot torpedos out of it. There shouldn't have been a way for him to see me since he was in the middle of the smoke.

I'm pretty sure that the game already works that way. It's just, that the spotting information is shared between ships, meaning that any vessel inside a smoke screen will still be able to see any targets that a frindly ship outside the screen sees.

Not just that!

It does work both way, but if you're a big ship and you keep shooting — your visibility through smoke increases and he might likely still see you. Another case is when his allies still see you.
So if someone pops a smoke nearby — you may try not shooting for 20 seconds and see if spotted indicator disappears, for battleships it's very easy since reload time always exceeds 20 seconds anyway.

Here's a good advice for dealing with destroyers: https://steamcommunity.com/app/552990/discussions/0/1741090847739586529/#c1741090847740926735

I'm guessing you're still low tier and in a BB, it does get better as your knowledge increases and you move up tier. Below T5 torps can be frustrating as the BB's are so sluggish and you don't have the situational awareness you pick up as you progress.

You also need to remember DD's are the main counter to BB's, if one gets too close to you, you're generally dead (at least up to about T7), just like that poor cruiser that came round the corner broadside to your BB. One of the best ways to counter a DD is turn on 'Last Known Position' and keep a good eye on your minimap so you know where they were last spotted.

Also because reload of low-tier destroyers is quite fast.

Also it's possible to shoot towards the last position and direction of the enemy and still hit. If you didn't see "spotted" indicator — that's likely what happened.

Do you have a replay file, @ehni55?

Also, scientifically speaking, concealment and spotting dont mix. Any ship that is spotting for the team must be using a radio to relay that information and therefore exposing their own position to the enemy. If you want to remain concealed, you should not be allowed to spot for your team.

You could control spotting and concealment by having the option to turn on or off 'radio silence'

(That was a significant issue in real naval warfare)

Well, it's a game. Relaying information wouldn't tell the exact position and orientation of the ship, just like detecting someone's transmission does not. You already know there's an enemy in the area — the team list shows you that.

That argument is a bit weak. "huff duff" as it was called in ww2, if used correctly could give very accurate information on enemy location, and we both know the navy (historically speaking) took radio silence very seriously and for good reason!

But the whole system of reporting enemy positions worked very differently to the game - What we have in the game is very nice indeed.... a visual display of the enemy ships transmitted to the entire fleet in real time and adjusted to each individual ships perspective! Wow!! I am not complaining, just saying the least we could do is take away, or at the very least reduce a ships concealment if it is spotting.
