How to toggle 'alternative battle interface'?

i logged on and saw that my alternative battle interface had be disabled, i have no mods at all so i don't see why, when i went to try turn it back on the only thing i could do was hold alt to put it there as long as i held alt, i want to toggle it on, google has been as good as watching paint dry i spent like 20 mins using google for nothing, anyone one know how to toggle it on? thanks in advance

Strange. You could try a restart and a check and repair since thats obviously not working as intended. They changed the options menu a while back but I assume you mean the setting under HUD -> interface -> view. Having just checked myself it works so doesnt seem to be a universal issue. Sorry I cant be more help.

Just to be sure, since you weren't quite clear on it: You DID check your settings and whether they mistakenly had been changed somehow?

sorry for the late reply, yes i did, 3 times. all of them were normal as i did not change any others, it might help that when i saw it was missing just before that match the game thought that i had never downloaded it before, wanted me to do the tutorial again and put me back to access level 1, restarting the game put all my ships and access level back to normal but the battle interface was still missing, all tutorials i could find were out of date so all i can do is hold alt, but i want to toggle it if this helps, thanks.

Sounds like a Security issue and it is not updating the user_preferences.XML file .... open it with notepad or notepad++ for example and look for:
altVision mode=
This should read
altVision Mode=Enabled

see if it lets you save it!
