AVG antivirus
Technically it's up to AVG to fix their ♥♥♥♥, WOWS hasn't done anything wrong; it's a false positive by antivirus software.
Try contacting your antivirus supplier and if possible make the WOWS folder one that your antivirus software ignores.
WOWS really should be testing their updates on a number of systems with various AV software before rolling an update out; it's not like wargaming is a small indie company, they can definitely afford to buy multiple systems of different spec with different software.
Disable any antivirus and check files in steam.
Edit AVG is being an absolute wankstain and saying I can't remove the file from "quarantine", I wish they would ask before moving files into a folder from which they can not be removed.
It's gonna take ten minutes to verify file integrity via steam and hopefully that works, if not I'll have to do a complete reinstall.
Problem is I'll have to do it with my antivirus turned off which isn't safe as I use my PC for PGP and as such the clients have the key pairs saved. Not good for PC security at all.
If this is happening with different brands of AV software then the WOWS devs ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, if it happens only with AVG then it's the devs fault for not testing with such a popular antivirus client but also AVG's problem for detecting something which isn't a virus.
1)If affected (if not skip to step 7)
2)turn off AVG
3)go into steam
4)Go to library and right click WOWS
4)Open properties
5)Go to files tab
6)Validate game files (this will take a while
7)Open your AVG client
8)Go to settings
9)Select exceptions
10) Click browse
11)Find your WOWS client (should be in C/program filesx86/Steam/Steamapps/World of Warships
12)Click the lockbox for the WOWS folder
13)Add to exceptions
15)Re-enable AVG
16)Client will run now without crashing
For the WOWS devs:
1)Give me a bunch of dubloons and a heap of free arsenal resources for taking hours to write this massive multi-step problem solving guide.
Pretty please with a cherry on top
Thanks for this. Saved me some time.
I'd send you some bonus-code, but i don't have any yet
EVERYONE, he's right:
You need to inform your antivirus vendor EACH TIME you think it's found a FALSE positive.
you know he could have just told you to go to virus chest in your antivirus and give it exeption and restore the file.... that whole post he did ads many unnecesery steps
I tried restoring the file from the AVG virus vault, it would only restore the file partially, I assume it has been partially deleted or /Steamapps is is a semi-read only folder or some ♥♥♥♥ like that so AVG couldn't put the file back, even when I opened AVG with admin privileges.
Different systems and AV clients may vary.
