Without more information (check the Windows Event Viewer to see what the faults being generated are), some possibilities would be:
Corrupt installation - revalidate the game files via Steam, it'll reaccquire any corrupt ones;
Hard drive hardware faults that have been exposed by installing to a different drive - do a Windows full scan of the drive to see if there's corrupted sectors, etc - check the drive performance, think about virtual memory settings on the drive potentially, etc;
Different GPU driver profiles triggering due to the different launch location - check your GPU software to see if there's some weird settings being applied to the new installation (different power consumption settings could cause a reboot if it's causing PC to go under voltage or over-temp);
or depending on how long its been between switching installations, could be any sort of hardware fault developing in the meantime, or change in system configuration - possibly a change in device drivers in the interim.
Modifications could also be an issue - and reinstalling them to a fresh installation may well be a factor in exposing flaws with whatever mods you may be using - so could try uninstalling them or running the game in safe mode if that's a possibility, too.
