Yeah that is the one i want without the subs
There are several modes that don't, or at least often don't allow subs.
Not terribly useful to someone who has no interest in subs. This is why so many quit over it.
Won't happen, as above.
It'll never happen to randoms as has been discussed endlessly.
They've already sold premium subs and won't want to refund that much money.
There are modes that are at tiers that don't allow subs and those are your best bet
Could then lower the homing torp alpha (because low HP pool subs don't need as many torp hits per kill), and potentially reintroduce at least some degree of shotgunning with them (because subs do want to be relatively close to each other when fighting, but wouldn't be effective trying to shotgun surface stuff with torps that behave more like super-specific deep water torps or are dealing limp alpha).
Would hopefully reduce the amount of noob-trapping going on with the class; and removing the "all your DCP are belong to us" issue, along with how annoying homing torps are to play against, would open up some design space for buffing some of the more satisfying gameplay.
Upping alt-torp alpha a touch, or lowering the torp detection distances to be closer to DDs', becomes way more feasible for a class that isn't just torturing stuff with ping-spam non-stop on top of its torping, or that isn't just forcing DDs / Cruisers into lengthy evasive manouvres for the entire duration of the homing phase.
Also means that you could give pings some added value vs surface ships (and let you rebalance their deployment a bit) if they're not sending homing munitions onto target, for example pings giving spotting to team for the duration of their effect - strengthening the scouting role of subs.
That's one of the things I find so frustrating about the current sub implementation - there's a ton of alternatives that could be attempted with them in their design space to make them more interesting or more thematically appropriate, but there seems to be zero interest in actually doing it.
Although I appreciate WG have probably bitten off more than they can chew with their overly complicated CV rework.
I agree they are literally a nightmare and can be a pain in the rear! But learning them does help you counter them!
