But yes it was a gunnery training platform in WWII because it was too old. Fortunately it's not fighting WWII ships in this game much either ;)
Has no bearing on your score, and thus your rewards. Focus on having high battle impact, not on being alive when the match ends.
Hopefully this is in Random matches, and not co-op; because co-op gives nerfed rewards in general.
Been ages since I played low tier BBs, but I remember Wyoming being great. Lots of guns for the tier, and they're pretty punchy and good at finding enemy citadels.
Delete broadside cruisers (and battleships where applicable) with AP.
Accept it's slow as hell and position your ship accordingly from the very start of the match.
Force enemy to choose between showing broadside to either you or teammates; and once you've established that crossfire position, get as close as possible without showing more than 30 degrees broadside to incoming AP (take shells on main armour belt whilst it is properly angled), without pushing so far that you end up showing broadside to enemy torps at close range.
Works a treat. For bonus points, learn its overmatch threshold and the bow / stern armour plating of the ships in its tier-range and just nuke them through their noses / booties too.
And as far as i know old WW I era dreadnoughts were used in WWII by the US to give heavy fire support to US marines and US army kicking the Japanese off of every island with an airfield. And during landings in Europe and North Africa.
For that role in WWII speed was not needed, and age of the guns or caliber did not matter, they were all very large for use against targets on land.
Seen 152 mm-ish land base artilery can already bury soldiers alive by pushing trench walls to completely collapse, imagine what 305 or 356 mm HE shells could do.
None of that is of use in game though, although from T6 on you can shoot fortifications with naval guns in some Operations. But is it that bad vs other WW I era Dreadnoughts ?
Probably would have more success in randoms with it tbh.
As for ingame use, it's a tier IV BB. And those, let's be honest, are usually not terribly great ships. And certainly not terribly fast ones. And the USN line is particularily known for slow speed up to tier VIII.
2. I found the US BB's to be awful until T6, but Colorado at T7 is pretty good if you keep it away from the flanks - gravitate inwards. North Carolina is a beautiful ship. Kansas was pretty grim but Minnesota was a monster. Stick with them!
Get your positioning right on the 20kt ones (avoid the flanks), manage the range (the floaty shells can be easily dodged at very long ranges) and play through the Random battles. And watch some videos on the US BB gameplay and aiming.
You'll soon be flying up to Iowa!
(And of all ships, it was my first BB line as well. Those few years, I never forgot and I just double checked again)
Good luck!
