Loss of FPS since Windows 11 Update
Recently Windows 11 update "24H2" seems to have had a negative impact on my game performance and I was wondering if anyone else was seeing the same thing. I'd notice ever so slight frame drops and stuttering. It's hard to describe, but it seems the game is running a lot less smoothly than before.

I run an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with the up-to-date drivers.

You can have Steam throw up a frame rate counter in the top left in settings (applies to all games).

I haven't noticed anything like that, but I'm always stuck at 60 fps anyway (vsync and my old monitors) and my GPU isn't maxed out.

That's where it gets weirder. My FPS counter from WOWS itself shows a steady 60 but it doesn't feel that way at all. I will try the Steam one and see if there's a difference!

Update:

Ok, so the Steam and ingame FPS counter were in perfect sync, but it still felt stuttery. So turned vsync off to see if there's a difference. Without that, my FPS jumped to 140+ and was butter smooth.

But I know for a fact that 60 FPS with vsync was smooth too, so I'm very confused lol
I always had it set up like this for years.

It could be internet lag. When that happens sometimes it can feel stuttery. Your FPS doesn't change, but things get janky. Usually with wows however, it just makes you boat stall and speed up fast. At least that's what I've seen.

Yes, that happens on occasion, but it's gone down significantly in frequency since I got a new wifi adapter (ethernet is sadly not an option).

For now it seems that vsync is to blame, for some reason. I'll keep an eye on this and see what future Windows updates and Nvidia drivers will do here.

soon we will all have the same problem. As window 10 will not receive anymore update as june 2025. No choice to all go to window 11.

Check if G-sync / FreeSync settings are interfering with V-sync; check if your graphics drivers are forcing it on top of the in-game settings, etc.

You only want one type of synchronisation active at a time (been a while since I fiddled with global settings, but IIRC best practice is Gsync on, vsync forced from Nvidia driver, game v-sync off, and framerate limit set appropriately for the G-sync).

Double-check you've got triple-buffering on if you're syncing to a relatively low refresh rate (60hz)

Double-check your GPU's prebuffered frame-limit.

Double-check your game's framerate cap (both port and in-battle; which are separate settings) and crank in-battle one up - the settings are in one of the xml files IIRC, but Aslains modpack has a built-in setting to specify anyway.

Hi there, I was just forced to install the same Windows Update (I'd rather ignore it for another month or two) and I ran into the same issues. I tried reinstalling the newest gpu drivers and checked the game itself for corrupt files via Steam but it was fine.

The fix for me was to change from Windowed Fullscreen to just Fullscreen. Now 60 fps feel like 60 fps again! :) Hope it helps you and others.

Sounds like a v-sync issue then, as changing fullscreen modes will switch between the Windows desktop setting and the fullscreen exclusive mode setting (usually specified by the game specifically; or with a GPU game-specific profile override).

If so, a solution might be found by double-checking the Windows desktop settings for refresh rate, v-sync, etc - and double checking profile settings for the desktop (so default) from the video card's control panel (NVidia control panel, for example) to make sure it's forcing the correct settings.
Hi again, quick update. I just updated my chipset drivers and the game is working normal again, in windowed fullscreen mode and V-Sync turned on. I'm not sure if that was the fix, but I did not do anything else..
as A note to anyone having this issue since the last patch, we in the IT Industry have noticed many programs, games and performance hindered with recent Windows updates and 99% of the time it is a out of date Driver (Chipset or GPU) or a required BIOS update especially with the Intel Chipsets and Gen 1 Ryzen boards!! Gen 2 and the 14th Intels or Ultra seem to be OK along with the 7, 8 and 9 thousand Ryzens!!

Good Luck!

I agree with you, since the update W11 24H2 I have the same problems, sudden FPS drops.

My drivers / BIOS are all up to date!

Might be some other issue, power supply, ram etc. WoWS is a sensitive game. I would contact support. They'll get the game's log and have you run diagnostics.
Can any of you roll back your drivers prior to the latest update? I'm still on 10 so, I cannot check it out. If it's a graphic issue then, check the manufacturers website. Asus, Dell, whatever. I got my fps locked @ 144M/hz. I could go more but I'm fine with that. In game, that is. In the port, WG has a set FPS @ 75.

It has always been set to 75. At least for many years. I think there's a way around it by editing the files but I've never tried. That's plenty for me :) I would try Google search though. I remember it under discussion a while back.

for me it was AMD freesync, while using vsync ingame too.
only use 1 method, best way for wows is using gamesettings only and driversetting should take gamesettings and not overwrite warship settings, warships doesnt like (atleast in my case) the driver(profile) settings

i cant talk for nvidia but its worth a try
