How do we measure being successful in WoW?
For me i have opened and have now 108 ships.
Prob close to 50 since start of january. Got me zeiten in the brawl.
Have F.D.Grosse but cool with torps
Many measure in Wins or sunk. How do you?
Getting many ships is a way to lower those i guess.
When you start to know your ship, you change.

How do we measure good progress?

Are you having fun? -> Success.

Anything else is secondary at best.

It was actually naval battles who made me think that way.
For others iguess it's a waist of time.
qurious what other do for priority.

For me? Success is fun, as christof says, but then, what is success?

Completing goals is success. This game provides a lot of events/mission chains that translate into fun for me because of that.

That alone probably wouldn't do it though since it's never ending. I also enjoy feeling that I'm at least passing good at something. For me, becoming better at this game is a goal. Winning more than losing makes me feel I'm decently good at it and that translates into fun. If I weren't any good, I probably would have lost interest and moved on to something I was better at.

I think this goes for a lot in life. For example, you won't find many really good cooks that hate cooking.

tl:dr Being good at something or being successful is fun.

Hard to argue with that one!

I don't look for "success" per say from games. I look for enjoyment.
I get that having fun playing a well made game with my mates.

Mate when you enjoy it, that is success.
You just described another way of measure success
A good 1
When i put this up,it was not ment to boast in any way.
My weakness is that i still miss T10 ship. 350 000 XP is scary. Finnished researched.
So no X tier matches to me yet.
And anyway i believe i like T5 best, loots of cool matches there. Plain, simple and deadly.

I count being successful as having at least very good solo WR (54%?) and PR (1550) at tiers above 5 with a decent sample size.
I measure good progress as the slope of WR, PR, and avg. xp graphs, which should be positive.
I see fun being used as a metric, but personally I wouldn't find getting smashed all the time fun.

Respectfully, winrate is not entirely down to skill. Many times i have seen
a team of "lemmings" Yolo into the middle of the map and die in what seems
like seconds. Personal skill cannot alter this.
I am co founder of a "social" clan and team up with newer players a lot.
As a result of this i have a terrible winrate. This does not however detract
from the fun and enjoyment i get from WOW's. It does however attract a lot
of toxic comments from people who are "hung up" on the numbers game.
I do agree that losing a lot is not that much fun if you were a solo player.

Any single game isn't necessarily skill, but better players win more - you can't argue that. By the time you have thousands of games down... your WR will be telling. No one has such a string of luck that they can be a poor player and also have a 55% WR. It's just not possible.

To be fair, MM averages out over time and you will of course get some teams that are very hard to carry, but so does everyone. People with higher winrate tend to help carry their teams on the closer matches, even when the other team is technically better overall.

Agree with the "enjoying the game is success" sentiments above but I would also add improving over time to that. Everyone makes misplays at times (even when they are quite marginal decisions) and learning from these mistakes and trying to not do whatever it was again in future matches means you are getting better at the game.

Good luck have fun :)
