Good ways to get steel?

Fair amount available from the dockyards if you buy a few extra stages. Steel is also the reward for T11s in events like the anniversary thing going on now (next will be winter snowflakes I assume). Sometimes some in the battlepass as well.

To be honest the most reliable and easiest way is play clan battles. Better still if your clan has upgraded their steel building in the clan port.

Also right now, any tier XI ships will get you steel from the Anniversary event. And coming December, the Christmas event will likely give steel for any tier VIII and IX ship in your port again.

as above.... Clan Battles to Typhoon rewards decent steel and premium time along with ranked grinds each season (This requires a clan to play with or Merc as a mercenary for a clan and ranked is like pulling teeth at times!)

Some Idea of amount:
Squall 2750 Steel (30 wins)
Gale 2750 Steel (30 wins)
Storm 2750 Steel (30 wins)
Typhoon 2800 Steel (30 wins)
Hurricane (top rare clans) 1650 Steel (30 wins)

I can usually get in around 150 - 200 CB Games a season and usually get only 3/4 of Typhoon with my clan but I merc out to get the extra's

Combine in comps like King of the Sea, Ranked\Super C's and Monthly rewards thingy you get a ship twice a year in an active clan!

If I'm really honest, I think the way that you can obtain steel is a bit crappy.
As you can see from Revenge's post, by far the best way is to play in CB's but that takes a lot of work - and some people won't like that mode of play. And as well you have the clans that don't make it above Squall or Gale, right?
At the moment I'm basically getting a new steel ship every coupon, with some CB's, some ranked, dockyards and paid event passes - so 2 a year, it must be painful for those who don't do any of that.

Well it used to be ONLY clan battles. I think there's nothing wrong with having some rewards tied to certain modes to encourage them. I did CB's when they were mandatory. Now they aren't, so I don't. It comes down to if you want something, just do what's required to get it or it's not worth it.

End game gameplay for an end game currency makes sense.
