No battleships ever hit anything as they were sinking. But technically when your ships hit pool is getting low you're already on the way to sinking - it's just rendered because it's... arcade.
And once a CV is dead, the player can't take off again of course.
There is rather less reason for a BB to be able to keep firing its guns or a DD smoking anywhere on the map after being sunk. There is an argument for a battleship that is "sunk" in shallow waters by an island being able to do this, but since the game uses a hitpoint model for damage its probably fair to assume that on zero HP the ship is no longer in any sort of fighting shape and the crew would be jumping in the lifeboats.
not a single one of those planes could make it to midway atoll from even a FULL tank of gas -- and CV planes werent getting a full tank of gas for any engagement in which the CV is within enemy engagement range; planes fueling on the deck is the #1 risk to a naval ship in combat.
and even if they were running a CV within range of an airbase (& why would they do that. seriously think about that, why would you route a CV into the range of a land base to make sorties & risk losing your CV when a landbase is a CV that cant be sunk), the pilots didn't know exactly where that base is, they're almost guarenteed to get lost bc they're eyeballing a several hundred mile trip over the ocean to land on an island in a sea with THOUSANDS of identical-looking island with fog and inclement weather possibly covering the base that even if you *did* find it you'd then have to wait to clear up, which means every time you pass an area of inclement weather or fog you have to consider the possibility it's covering your base & need to wait for the fog to clear up only for it to have not been the base to begin with and you think pilots were going "oh i'll just keep fighting until my tank hits E & then go get lost in the pacific ocean"?
?????????????????????????????????? you ACTUALLY think that?????????????????????
thats actually genuinely one of the most insane things ive heard someone suggest about a war
well at least i have to thank you for proving my original point. CV players are special little boys who demand that the base rules of the game (die = out of the match) don't apply to them
So by this logic, any shells in the air or torps in the water should also vanish when the ship which fired or launched them is destroyed???
Considering a carrier could technically keep one squad in the air for the full 20 minute duration of a battle if they wanted to it doesnt seem unreasonable that they can get one strike in with any surviving planes. Its certainly more sensible than suggesting a BB gets to keep on shooting or a DD gets to drop smoke wherever it wants after they are sunk. Those planes are still active units that are within close range of potential targets. Rather different from your destroyed surface ships. Lets not forget we are talking about planes with operational ranges of at least 1000kms (as confirmed by your Wiki link, although was already fully aware of the long ranges of most maritime planes). Dropping ordnance (and weight) on a target 15km away gonna make that much of a difference?
And with that in mind:
Considering your suggestion, you think that a plane hanging around for 2 minutes in the theatre of battle is the more insane concept? Ironic.
Your whole tone and snarky comments like "CVs being special little boys" suggests you struggle against the class. Maybe you should ask for some tips against CVs rather than complaining about them getting one last strike in with any active planes after their hull is sunk.
