I enjoy Verdi a lot! It's lately become one of my top 10 ships I'd say. I built it as a secondary build and those SAP secondaries just tear things up!
Flint is something you like or don't like. I don't, but a lot of people do. Short range guns, extremely fragile, but adept at firing over islands if you have team mates that are able to light your targets.
I like Wichita. Part of that is it's a real historical and slightly odd ship. That's part of what's appealing to me, but she performs pretty well. Standard American heavy cruiser with radar.
Salem is decent, but Des Moines is free, practically identical (same class ship IRL) and better in some ways. I'd just do that. Of all the coal ships, Salem would be last pick just because DM is free(er?). DM has better radar, Salem has a better heal. Salem also can't mount radar and hydro at the same time. DM can.
Napoli is a pretty good cruiser I think. I've not played it much, but a lot of players really like it. From the little experience I do have playing, it seems quite decent overall.
Napoli is a great ship, pretty tough and has secondaries that can annihilate lighter ships. Possibly best of all is that combined with the toughness and secondaries you get the Italian cloaking device (exhaust smoke generator) and torpedoes.
Decide how eager you are to pay full coal price, or if you'd rather wait for that coupon and save potentially some tens of thousands of coal toward your next one.
P.S. Rupprecht > Pommern
(In case someone doesn't get it: He calls people that play strong secondary ships disgusting for doing so. But recommends getting Napoli which is a strong secondary ship.)
