Genova is really pretty bad imo. I don't like it at all. I'm not sure I've heard anyone say they like it... But I'm sure someone does :)

I enjoy Verdi a lot! It's lately become one of my top 10 ships I'd say. I built it as a secondary build and those SAP secondaries just tear things up!

Flint is something you like or don't like. I don't, but a lot of people do. Short range guns, extremely fragile, but adept at firing over islands if you have team mates that are able to light your targets.

I like Wichita. Part of that is it's a real historical and slightly odd ship. That's part of what's appealing to me, but she performs pretty well. Standard American heavy cruiser with radar.

Salem is decent, but Des Moines is free, practically identical (same class ship IRL) and better in some ways. I'd just do that. Of all the coal ships, Salem would be last pick just because DM is free(er?). DM has better radar, Salem has a better heal. Salem also can't mount radar and hydro at the same time. DM can.

Napoli is a pretty good cruiser I think. I've not played it much, but a lot of players really like it. From the little experience I do have playing, it seems quite decent overall.

Napoli is a great ship, pretty tough and has secondaries that can annihilate lighter ships. Possibly best of all is that combined with the toughness and secondaries you get the Italian cloaking device (exhaust smoke generator) and torpedoes.

In that constellation, I would personally go for Napoli first. It has served me well. Also if you haven't got Pommern yet, consider taking it for your next choice after that. Salem takes some skill to successfully play in PvP, but can be a very strong ship if you have that. If you're nowhere near Des Moines yet in the tech tree, it is a perfectly decent choice as well. But I would, as mentioned, go for Napoli and even Pommern first.
Don't get Flint. It's been rendered completely obsolete ever since the commander skill rework a couple years ago that removed the +20% main battery range skill for cruisers - and it didn't even get a buff to its base stats to counteract that like Atlanta did.

Flint has sky high shell arcs which makes long range (her max is 12.4 km I think) a challenge. But, like Jackson said, it's great for lobbing rounds over islands. With 6 turrets and a quick reload, you can fire sequentially and keep a steady stream of rounds in the air. Also a plus, she has torps....handy for catching somebody that comes chugging around the island you're behind.

Don't forget: in your Armory, there's a coupon for coal ships, twice a year, typically June and December.

Decide how eager you are to pay full coal price, or if you'd rather wait for that coupon and save potentially some tens of thousands of coal toward your next one.

Napoli is a super fun ship! Do a secondary build on her and when they get in range they blast everything in sight. Throw in moving smoke and torps and you can have a blast!

Agreed, try Pommern in secondary build and you will get great enjoyment from playing it.

I would say Napoli > Salem because Des Moines exists.

Salem is downgrade from Des Moines, get Napoli. And people who advise Pommern, why you even play ship that plays itself without player? Disgusting.

P.S. Rupprecht > Pommern

Pommern will usually beat Rupprecht in a 1v1, that's why you see them in brawl but rarely see a Rup. Secondaries aren't as good, but more guns, more armor, more health. Besides that, it's a premium and makes WAY more money and doesn't require it's own captain.

Interesting.

(In case someone doesn't get it: He calls people that play strong secondary ships disgusting for doing so. But recommends getting Napoli which is a strong secondary ship.)

If choose between Salem or Napoli, Salem is coal wasted. My problem with secondaries is my problem.

Fair enough.
