does not appear to be going over well: the majority of posters there seem to be in consensus that Discord is not even remotely a good surrogate/replacement for an official forum.
Discord is an over-glorified chatroom, it's no substitute for an official forum where a majority of topics are easily organized and back-searched (more easily than Discord).
One of serious concern for many of us, who have yet to acquire every premium ship, is that all those ship reviews by LittleWhiteMouse will eventually disappear into the lost internet ether.
"Once it's on the internet, it stays on the internet" isn't true, when the company hosting the pages or website takes it all down.
So if any of you have any favorite articles, discussions, or posts, spend the next couple days trying to print-to-pdf as many as you can, for posterity's sake, or your own personal reference.
Well if they're using these "false flag" posts as reason to justify moving it all over to Discord, they're in for a rude awakening.
Discord itself has had its countless shares of "anonymous friend requests", scammers trying to get enough of your account information to claims it's theirs.
Discord mods don't work any faster at getting them all caught on Day 1, either.
And add to it that Discord wants your personal phone number when you try to register there?
One more piece of information the identity thieves can gain access to when Discord has another convenient leak.
This is going to sour the community even more, not make things better.
Discord isn't nearly as organized as a forum and discord has it's own problems (One of which I've heard is that they can't make a profit. Though I was just told that)
I wonder why they'd want to relocate to discord, something they can't really control vs something they can control?
I can only assume there will be a huge population explosion on discord server.
Also not everyone wants to join a discord server (if I'm not personally attached to it for some reason, I'll get sick of pings and mute, then eventually leave it)
There's people who play WoWs who might not even want to join discord so this really seems out of no where...
The only real context where the move makes sense is them cost cutting. There are far more current and automated tools for actively moderating Discord. Meaning they need less moderators overall. The issue they will all too quickly realize though is official servers require 24/7 moderators still. And that unlike regular forums harvesting via DMs lets bad actors completely avoid setting off the telltales for moderation until users are complaining.
That was actually the first thought that went through my mind upon reading that nothing would be accessible anymore come October. "Wait, that means all of those LWM reviews will be gone?"
I mean besides the work that she herself put into those, they are absolutely invaluable for any of us thinking about whether a ship may be worth getting. (Plus some of the art on them is just adorable.)
And there are a lot of them too. So not sure if anyone has the time and space to archive them in time.
See, the good thing about a forum is that it does also function as some type of archive. You don't have to be on right then and there when something happens to be able to make use of it. You can log in days or weeks later and just catch up on what you feel is interesting for you. It might be some work to read all of it, but you can manage. Also you can just filter by the thread titles or use the search to decide on what and what not to read relatively easily.
Discord, for all its advantages in other fields, just doesn't do that in the same kind of way. Never mind the aforementioned loss of older articles that may still be very relevant.
So yeah... I'm sorry to say it this bluntly. But this is nothing short of utter idiocy.
Absolutely the same response on EU. Theres a few threads but this one (linked below) has been the most active. 220 or so replies and 5000 views in the 5 hours its been up. Kind of emphasises the importance of the official forums.

Everyone left the Discord server.
Now try having a structured debate about ship balance in Discord ...
The forum mods worked for nothing, but WG would still see the forum as an expense, eg hosting & maintenance costs

The official game forums have been running for eight and a half years. There is a staggering amount of useful tips, guides, advice and feedback that have been an invaluable source of information for players new and old. Not only that but its in a very real sense the "history" of WoWs which deserves better than to be consigned to oblivion while the game is still open and running (it would be fair enough if WoWs itself was closing down for good). Not only that, but its been a place for fellow players to post their great wins and close defeats, to argue about ships and just generally converse and have a laugh and a joke with their peers.
A lot of people have referenced LWM's fantastic and detailed ship reviews on the NA server. I cant imagine she will have any interest in continuing this on a platform that really doesnt lend itself to such content. I noticed she posted about this on NA a little while ago saying "Having played with Discord's "Forums" feature, it's not a viable place to post anything but short-form stuff.". If one of the most respected and knowledgeable content creators in the game is of this opinion then I think its reasonable to accept that she has a point.
Its kind of strange that WoT and even WoWP still have their official forums and yet the WoWs forums which on this one topic have had 12000 views and around 700 posts in the two most active threads on NA and EU are deemed to be lacking in engagement.
Sigh.
