It's a tough justification making a Black Edition from a tech tree ship, because you wouldn't get the doubloons mission for having both the Black Edition and standard version (of a premium ship).
But the situation is, the only current contenders are the Dallas (which WG/Warships "invented" anyway, based on ideas at the time), and Pensacola.
The only way this could work,
would be to introduce a slightly different Pensacola,
as her sister ship, Salt Lake City, as a premium,
and then we could have a Salt Lake City Black edition.
Granted, WG/Warships could just as well add a Dallas clone, make it premium and name it after some other city (maybe one that never got a ship named after it, or was slated to but never did), then also add a Black edition of that.
They'd want to sell as a premium for the mission above.
I guess it's possible Maybe as part of a package
But yeah, I don't see a Black version of a tech tree ship ever existing. What I could see is where a premium ship version of a tech tree ship or ship class at least exists (I don't know... Omaha-Marblehead?), for the premium version to get a Black version.
Apropos tier VI though, and considering some removed ships were brought back as Black....
Graf Spee B?
Maybe a Nelson B as well, a tier higher?
I would 100% buy a Graf Spee B.
UNLESS that would be the only time They offer those ships again (serious cash-grab strategy there).
One thing that potentially DOES draw in revenue, is if a player gets a Black addition ship, they purchase the regular premium version (if they don't already have it), because they see the doubloons missions for owning both as a sort of discount.
So unless there's a limited time sale event on a discontinued premium(s), it wouldn't be as profitable to be giving away a Black edition of the ship.
Don't forget that we are talking about ships that are very popular and usually not available. That has its draw even without any doubloon mission.
