I suggest only using Fxp to by the upgrades and nothing else, but since you're only getting to 6 it might not be that important.
Anyhow, don't rush the cap, I like to go 1/4th speed till I know where I can get the best support for scouting the cap
Most importantly, don't die, if you're super low on hp, just try to spot as best you can, maybe dump torps if you can get away with it.
Caps are one of the biggest exp boosts you can get so I suggest capping be your second priority (First is staying alive)
But there's been times I haven't done much damage or kills, but have a few caps in hand and end up getting towards the top. So I'm quite sure capping grans a decent amount.
Staying alive is the most important part
That is from zero, mind you. If you already have any of the ships in the line researched, it obviously is less. So even at ~2k/battle... I mean, it takes a bit of time. But not terribly so. These games you need to think long term when it comes to grinding. And it's better than quite a few others I've seen or heard about.
This is a sore point as I spent months not understanding the XP system and wasted lots of FXP.
The golden rule on tiering and unlocking is that stated above - only use FXP to buy upgrades if possible. Resist temptation to skip tiers. The best way to play the game is to play through each ship as you'll earn standard XP to unlock the next ship and simultaneously gain real experience in playing the type. It will teach you the strengths and weaknesses of the ship (useful not only for playing it but knowing how to counter it when opposed by it), and in many cases (not all) will prime you for the next ship in the line. Some of the ships are a tough, tiresome experience, but always persevere as most of them need you to learn and get accustomed to them before you can play reasonably well.
I've lost count of the times I've raged on this forum "XXXXX is a pile of junk" then about 20 games later I love the ship.
Having said that, I frequently do use FXP to skip T1-4 but only now I've amassed a lot of higher tier ships (and premiums) and premium time that could earn FXP at a fast rate. I dont enjoy the lower tier games plus most of the combat missions require Tier V or above so it's comparatively worthless.
So either hammer the grind or get a cash cow higher tier ship or two to earn the FXP. Remember it should be a premium or elite ship and equip the right bonuses if you have them.
