Tech Tree ships you hang on to?
I am curious what everyone thinks about some tech tree ships they leveled but decided to keep because they are fun or unique.

Here are some of mine thus far:

Nassau (Tier III German BB)

My first ever battleship and easily my favorite at tier III. I like that its secondaries actually accompllish something and I got lucky enough to get the Jackal camo for it.

Derzki (Tier III Soviet DD)

10 torpedoes a volley at tier III. Nuff said!

New Mexico (Tier VI US BB)

Solid allrounder that hits like a truck, even if it moves like one.

Icarus (Tier VI UK DD)

I hated this thing at first when I got it from a British collection crate. Over time I got better (or should I say: slightly less sucky) with destroyers so I ended up really enjoying it. Plus its my only ship for Operation Dynamo.

Dallas (Tier VI US CL)

My go-to AA cruiser. Hands out fires like candy and is fun to hunt DDs with.

Lyon (Tier VII French BB)

16 barrels of fun? Yeah this thing murders cruisers. Even if its performance against other BBs leaves a lot to be desired, I can't help but love this ship.

Bismarck (Tier VIII German BB)

One of the reasons I got into this game to begin with. Frustrating as hell or hilariously fun are both two very conflicting emotions that this secondary battery monster invokes. Call it a love-hate relationship.

North Carolina (Tier VIII US BB)

Fast, hits hard and has all the AA she will ever need. LOVE IT!

What ships are some of your keepers?

I kept the Wickes and the Bretagne just because they were featured in the "Destroyermen" series of novels. I'll keep the Kagero, too, once I actually unlock it.
I hold on to most of my IJN ships, though I really need to dismiss some captains because holy moly I have way too many just sitting around on these ships I haven't used since I entered the tier VIII grind.

Regardless, I have a few favorites that when I'm done with grinding for credits and tier IX ships, I'll probably go back to playing time-to-time.

IJN:
  • Fuso: it may be a huge ships that can be seen from space but man her broadside weight is fantastic, combined with her high accuracy makes her just a solid ship for her tier.
  • Myoko: The first IJN cruiser that really kicks up the kiting game to a solid level, with a 10 gun broadside, aft mounted torpedoes, great manouverability, and decent armor against other cruisers. Unlike Mogami and Takao, she's not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over by awful matchmaking.
  • Nagato: Her 410's are just great. Her armor kind of sucks, but her range and accuracy is what starts to set the standard for you to hang back and snipe.
  • Akizuki: I stopped at this ship since I don't really care for the Harugumo. I'm trying to make an AA build for this ship, though I wish DFAA was an option on this thing
USN:
  • Omaha: this ridiculous scout cruiser is so much fun: it's fast, bristeling with guns, and has a stupidly huge citadel.
  • Pensacola: 10 gun broadside at her tier is actually quite a threat to other cruisers: her AP hits hard and she is very manouverable. She's more like a like cruiser with heavy cruiser guns; I like to refer to these type of cruisers as "medium cruisers".
  • St. Louis (1939): Referred to as Helena (I have her renamed), x15 152mm guns with IFHE is just nuts. She does the BIG damage numbers

IGN/KM:
*Type 1934A: AKA Leberrecht Mass, this is just a mean little destroyer for her tier: you can really bully other DDS with your HP, RoF, and Hydro makes her a very competetive DD.

RN:
*Queen Elizabeth: British 381mm BLK Mk I guns are just the most consistent BB guns in the game: they do big damage, overmatch 25mm armor, have great accuracy ect ect. She's very similar to Warspite, trading turret traverse for more AA. She does need CE and FP to be competetive though, since she has massive superstructure and awful gun range.

I kept the Gadjah Mada because it's stupidly strong for tier 7. For a moment I was considering the Jervis but its hydro isn't as useful as Gadjah's 8km deepwater torps + speedboost.

I still have the Kiev from the RU DD grind but it's just a question of time until I sell it as I have two premium DDs at tier 8 now. I also used to have the Udaloi but sold it after the Grozovoi got buffed.

When I like a certain ship I normally get the closest premium of that class and nation. I enjoyed the Minsk and Benson and got the Leningrad and Kidd.

All/most T5-6-7 because OPs, most T8-9-10 because they are too expensive...

Over 150 ships ever had, now @ 126.

I mostly play the operations, so that means i sell everything below tier 6 that i no longer need for tech tree climbing.... except the Nassau, and keep everything between tier 6 and 8 and not interested in tier 9 and 10.

The Nassau was the one ship i was able to reliably get a decent game out of in Random.... when i say 'decent game' i dont mean necissarily winning, i just mean the ability to put in a decent fight verses exploding at first sight of the enemy.

Almost all of them...just because. 211 ships in port.

I just buy them back whenever i need them. Keep some T5s+ in the port for doing missions, like Iron Duke for setting fires :hee: (yeah, don't have a better one for that)

New Mex cos it can cit t8s :)

All T8-T10. Fiji, Gadjah Mada, Fushun, Budyonny, Clemson, Svietlana and think that's about it.

I'm always in need of credits so I tend to sell off older ships unless I've won/earned/unlocked a perm.camo, so at the mo I've got Nassau (Halloween Camo) Edinburgh (Arctic scheme) Monarch (2year anniversary) New Orleans (2year ani) Helena (Rememberance) and once I finish grinding Maas I've got the Halloween Z-23 ready and waiting :)

Yeah, that's a very wise idea, also considering that top credit camo costs 22.5k credits.
With permanent camo ships don't differ too much from premium ships — just a little less credit gain and commander retraining still required.

Currently the only tech tree ships I've kept are as follows: Montana, Des Moines, GK, Hinden... ok you get the idea.

There has been several that I hung on to for a goodly amount of time - but I found myself never playing them. I generally move my captains up the line in order to have a good highly trained one by the time I get to T10.

I kept Colorado, Gneisenau and Bismarck for a while. But ya know... A premium always replaced them. Premiums always tend to be more unique and interesting to me - and they bring home the dough! Currently I have only T10's and the lines i'm slowly working on.

I'm like gunny, I have 180 ships in port. The one's I enjoy playing though are the Graf Spee, Kronshtadt, Mikhail Kutuzov, Tirpitz, and Izayslav. After playing the PEF a lot this last month I am liking that ship a lot too.
