IMO, Wargaming is struggling to create new content. As such they are trying to introduce too many half-baked things into the game simultaneously.
IMO, the presence of multiple CVs, multiple Subs and Superships have made Random Battles all but unplayable.
Ranked Battles were a lot of fun but the inclusion of CVs in the 6v6 matches have made them far less enjoyable, IMO.
Clan Battles were also a source of enjoyment but Wargaming included Superships in them for this season and their presence has greatly harmed their appeal, IMO.
Furthermore, Wargaming is preparing a major economic overhaul for the game and my fear is that it will make the GRIND significantly harder. But this seems to be a topic that causes threads to be locked so I don't feel comfortable discussing it freely or openly.

Lots of new content even after 7 years, also the most generous free to play game

Well, the download will probably be smaller. I guess watching youtube uses internet too.... But maybe cheaper way to see videos of what it's like.
Do you like ships? There's not a lot of competition
It's a bit like a shooter. Only a bit. Far slower which gives you time to think and use strategy (which some players don't do anyway, but...) and you rarely get killed in one shot unless you've made a mistake or are horrendously unlucky. It combines some aspects of realism with arcade play.
I would also recommend for you to not use the Steam version of the launcher in this case, but to go for the official Wargaming client instead. It would certainly work better for you whenever there are updates to the game.
Updates are a good point. Every month or so there's 2-3 GB download as the game is continuously having things added to it to keep it viable and keep older players playing new content. Some months may be less than 2 and I don't recall seeing over 3, but it's a good point.
